2. What is incontinence?
• Incontinence is a term that describes any accidental or
involuntary loss of urine from the bladder (urinary
incontinence) or bowel motion, feces or wind from the
bowel (fecal or bowel incontinence).
• Incontinence is a widespread condition that ranges in
severity from 'just a small leak' to complete loss of
bladder or bowel control.
• Incontinence can be treated and managed. In many
cases it can also be cured.
• According to some medical news around 25 million
peoples in India are suffering from incontinence.

3. Types of Incontinence
• Incontinence can be divided into two main
types
– Urinary Incontinence
– Fecal Incontinence

4. Urinary Incontinence
• Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of
urine. It means a person urinates when they do
not want to. Control over the urinary sphincter is
either lost or weakened.
• Urinary incontinence is a common problem that
affects many people.
• Urinary incontinence is more common among
women than men. An estimated 30 % of females
aged 30-60 are thought to suffer from it,
compared to 1.5-5 percent of men.

5. Fecal Incontinence
Fecal incontinence is the inability to control
bowel movements, causing stool (feces) to
leak unexpectedly from the rectum. Also
called bowel incontinence, fecal incontinence
ranges from an occasional leakage of stool
while passing gas to a complete loss of bowel
control.

6. Types of Incontinence
There are four main types of incontinence:-
1) Urge incontinence due to an overactive bladder.
2) Stress incontinence due to poor closure of the
bladder.
3) Overflow incontinence due to either poor bladder
contraction or blockage of the urethra.
4) Functional incontinence due to medications or
health problems making it difficult to reach the
bathroom.
