 Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social
well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also determines
how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices.
 Many factors contribute to mental health problems including,
• Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
• Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
• Family history of mental health problems

3. Introduction
 Coronavirus are a type of virus. There are many kinds, and
some causes diseases. A newly identified coronavirus has
caused worldwide pandemic of respiratory illness, called
COVID-19
 COVID-19 symptoms include cough, fever, muscle aches,
body pain, headache, vomiting etc

4. Impact of Corona on Mental Health
 As the Coronavirus is spreading rapidly sweeps across the world. It is including a
considerable degree of fear, worry, and concern in the population at large and
among certain groups in particular, such as older adults, care providers and people
with underlying health conditions.
 Most countries have taken action to curtail the spread of COVID-19 through
measures such lockdowns, social distancing. And voluntary self isolation.
 Whilst necessary, such measures and the disease itself may have adverse impact
on mental health e.g stress, anxiety, depression.

5. Effects of Corona in Pkaistan
 Care takers have advised people to stay in self isolation and quarantined but
necessary restrictions would have short and potentially long term deterimental
impact on mental health.
 Pakistan being a collectivistic culture and highly dependent on socialization has
been critical towards social distancing and are reluctantly dealing with emotional,
psychological, behavioral and social impact of this crisis.
 The psychological impact of quarantine includes post traumatic stress disorder,
confusion and frustration.

6. Possible Long Term Effects on Mental
Health
 According to Meltzer-Brody, survivors may have difficult coping with the traua
related to a quarantine or potential hospitalization.
 There are people who have lost multiple family members or friends. ‘those people
are going to be at a much greater risk for having complicated bereavement and
PTSD.
 People who have a history of mental illness, it puts them at risk of ‘relapse’
 Some families are being separated from loved ones because their loved ones don’t
want to be infected and because of that can lead to additional stress or strain on
various groups.
 For school aged kids one of the hardest things has been online classes

7.  Teenagers may also experience a sense of loss of grief at missing out on coming of
age milestones that mark their progress into adulthood
 This time of a year there’s lot of sadness because they are missing their friends,
graduation, they are missing a lot of things that they planned or look forward to
 Loss of independence could cause young adults to feel more isolated than they
otherwise would.
 Job loss can cause stressors that are toxic to mental health. Such as food insecurity
and inability to pay their bills.
