Care takers have advised people to stay in self isolation and quarantined but
necessary restrictions would have short and potentially long term deterimental
impact on mental health.
Pakistan being a collectivistic culture and highly dependent on socialization has
been critical towards social distancing and are reluctantly dealing with emotional,
psychological, behavioral and social impact of this crisis.
The psychological impact of quarantine includes post traumatic stress disorder,
confusion and frustration.
6. Possible Long Term Effects on Mental
Health
According to Meltzer-Brody, survivors may have difficult coping with the traua
related to a quarantine or potential hospitalization.
There are people who have lost multiple family members or friends. ‘those people
are going to be at a much greater risk for having complicated bereavement and
PTSD.
People who have a history of mental illness, it puts them at risk of ‘relapse’
Some families are being separated from loved ones because their loved ones don’t
want to be infected and because of that can lead to additional stress or strain on
various groups.
