! Structure & Meaning of Magazine Covers
A good cover should contain the following:
- Be able to be recognizable from issue to issue, thus portraying a brand image.
- Gain an emotional connect through appeal of the images.
- To be able to pull the reader; have a magnetic & curiosity creating feel.
- Have an intellectually stimulating attitude and have promising benefits.
- It should be efficient, fast and easy to scan.
- Logically should be a good investment.
Full Bleed; The picture appears
bigger as it continues outside the
natural confines of the magazine
cover. It gives an importance and
space to the main image.
Framed; separates the magazine
from more common full bleed covers.
It allows for more concentration and
focus on the central image, it is a
consistent structure & helps brand.
Multiple hit; The more cover hits
appeals to a broader audience &
the more important the item
featured is connected to the size
of that cover item.
Logo Cover; Logo covers are
predominately used to have an
overruling over the design, the content
and brand is more important than any
content in one particular issue.
