In August, Peter Seronickwas invited to judge the Connecticut Ad Club’s annual
advertisingaward show. It was a day and a half of judging work from Connecticut
Ad agencies, designstudios,marketing firms and in house departments. This is the
12th
show he has judged throughout his career.He has previously beena judge for
international,national,regionaland local shows.

2. Paul Mihailidis
Associate Professor
Faculty member, Paul Mihailidispublishedhis report during the summer of
2016, “Digital Crossroads: Civic Media& Migration,”with support fromIDA
based in Stuttgart, Germany. The project explores the role of medialiteracy in
enabling state and non-state actors to engage critically and skillfully with

Don Hurwitz
Senior Executive-In-Residence
Don Hurwitz served as a judge for the National Collegiate ECHO
Marketing Challenge sponsored by the Marketing Edge (formerly the
Direct Marketing Association).This year’s challenge involvedthe
creation of a multi-faceted campaign for a new Facebook business
offering. Don also joined the 2016 cohort of Emerson’s Inclusive
Excellence Faculty Fellows and attended a three-day programin May.
3. Lu Ann Reeb

Lu Ann was asked to speak at a June conferencein Beijing, the 2016
InternationalMediaInnovation and Entrepreneurship Education Forum.
The theme of the conference was “Rocking DreamTogether.”Reeb’stalk
was titled “Entrepreneurial Education Intersectswith MediaInnovation.” To

4. Paul Hackett

During the summer, Affiliated Faculty member Paul Hackett was an academic
advisor at Cambridge University in the UK and this appointment will continue into
2017. The project is looking at Corvid (members ofthe crow family of birds)
Cognition.Specifically,he is investigating the structuralmake-up of their cognitions
and developinga psychometric test battery to assess these. He is doing this with
Professor Nicole Claytonand Dr. JessicaSchwarzenbach,fromCambridge and
Dr. Rachel Shaw from VictoriaUniversity Wellington,New Zealand, with whom
he is psychometrically investigatingNew Zealand Robins. He has also been
appointed to a visiting chair (visiting full professor)in the Psychology Department
at the Gloucestershire, UK, for the period of 2016-2019.

Paul has also just received an image of the cover of his latest
book. It is from the Springer series Briefs in Philosophy.The
book will be published on January 7th
, 2017 and is about how we
perceive and understand three-dimensional abstract art, focusing
to some extent upon land art. The book presents an extension
of his previous two books on the perception ofabstract art, that
focused upon two-dimensionalworks. The new bookoffers an
extension ofhis mereological account usinga mapping sentence
couched in a facet theory rubric.
