Albania has over 3,250 plant species, many of which are medicinal and aromatic plants that are wild-collected rather than farm grown. In 2012, Albania exported around 52,000 metric tons of dried herbs and essential oils from these plants, including oils from black pine, cade juniper, Dalmatian sage, juniper, laurel, myrtle, rosemary, silver fir, Spanish-type origanum, thyme, and winter savory. These medicinal and aromatic plants and their derived products make up an important part of Albania's biodiversity exports.
