2. Almost all life on the earth depends
on the soil. It may a thousand years
for the formation of a layer of soil
about two and a half centimetre thick
but it can be washed away in a few
hours by different erosional agents.
So, we should conserve this precious
asset for our betterment. There are
various methods of soil conservation
3. CONTOURBUNDING, TERRACING
Contourbunding, terracing are the
important methods to check soil erosion
in hill slopes, plugging of gullies and
ravines ,in dissected areas and ravine
lands are the methods to check soil
erosion.
4. AFFORESTATION
Afforestation. The best way to prevent soil erosion is
to increase area under forest cover, because the
roots of trees can hold the top soil tightly. The trees
should not be cut down and the forest should not be
cleared for cultivation or industrialization. More and
more trees should be planted along hill slopes and
on the uncultivated land to check soil erosion.
For this purpose Van mohotsava' should be
organised during the rainy season
5. TO CHECK OVERGRAZING
Domesticated animals like goat, sheep and cattle
should not be allowed to overgraze. Specified area
and time should be maintained for grazing.
9. PLANTING OF SHELTERBELTS
Planting of shelterbelts. Belt of trees and shrubs
should be planted to check the velocity of the wind
where wind erosion is prominent
10. RECLAMATION OF WASTE
Reclamation of waste, saline or water-logged land
is needed. Crop rotation should be practised which
can increase the fertility of the soil and stop soil
erosion.
11. TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL
Technical and financial help should be given to the
farmers by the government of India. It is necessary
to adopt soil conservation methods.
