This PPT was exclusively prepared for GCPL, Kattukupam on the topics Employee Engagement Activities especially for its remote workers.
Employee engagement is the degree to which employees invest their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral energies toward positive organizational outcomes.
What is employee engagement in HR?
Employee engagement is the extent to which employees feel passionate about their jobs, are committed to the organization, and put discretionary effort into their work.
Performance is directly related to motivation as higher the motivation, better the performance. There is an urgent need to understand and employ motivational tactics at workplace which also can positively impact the management and leadership.
2. The process of making employees feel happy, satisfied, and loyal
towards their workplace.
What is employee engagement?
What employee engagement is not?
There is a misconception that talented people are only drawn to
companies with great benefits.
But people are looking for meaningful work, values, and impact-led
companies.
And to work with people from whom they can grow and learn.
3. Let’s have a proper clarity on it!
3
It is not employee happiness
It is not employee satisfaction
It is not the same as employee experience or culture
Your employees liking their job doesn't necessarily mean they are emotionally
connected to their work.
Happiness is a state of mind. But keeping employees engaged is different from making
them happy.
Although satisfaction is essential, it is only a part of the
engagement process. Satisfaction is about enjoying the work
irrespective of whether you like the company.
Employee engagement, employee experience, and company culture are all
related but distinct terms. It is the outcome of a good employee experience. A
good employee experience is in turn an outcome of good company culture.

9. Why Is Employee

Important?
The importance of
keeping your employees
engaged for overall
business outcomes cannot
be overstated.
To understand why
employee engagement is
important, let’s take note
of some statistics:

10. In what ways we can engage our employees?
Virtual Employee Engagement Physical Employee Engagement
12. #1 Pictionary
• Ask each member of a team to draw words using the “Whiteboard”
feature on Zoom or MS Teams or Google or any other platform in
which the meeting is conducted.
• Give their partners 60 seconds to guess the word and award the
person who does it the fastest.
13. #2 Scavenger Hunt
• Create a list of compelling questions related to your
website, company values, and people. Then, use Quizizz on Zoom to
engage your people and complete the puzzle. You can also use
apps such as Scavify or CameraHunt.
14. #3 Jigsaw Puzzle
• Create an image with anything related to your company, or take a
screenshot of your website page. Then, use Im-a-puzzle to create a
jigsaw puzzle out of this image, and let your team solve it. The
fastest team member to solve this virtual puzzle on zoom wins!
15. #4 Virtual Rewards & Recognition
• Virtually recognizing your people can be as simple as a “thank
you” on video calls. Or ask the whole team to clap during virtual
meetings when someone reaches an amazing milestone.
• For rewards, you can opt for remote-friendly options such as :
1.A digital gift card to a restaurant, coffee shop, brewery, or wine bar
2.A digital gift card for a streaming service (i.e. Netflix, Hotstar,
Disney+, etc.)
3.A voucher for an online fitness membership or exercise classes
4.An office supply gift card to improve their home workspace
5.Tickets to a local sports game, concert, festival, or event
16. #5 Ted-Style Talks
• Have each of your team members list the weird expertise they have,
like the world’s best chocolate chip cookie recipes.
• 3 to 5 minutes for each member is enough.
• At the beginning or end of your virtual meetings, have one team
member lead a Ted-Style Talk.
• Allow an extra two to three minutes for Q&A.
• You can continue on until all team members have given a talk.
• Virtual happy hours!
• People are interested in their colleague’s personal stories and
expertise.
17. #6 Inspirational Speeches
• A simple framework for delivering in inspiration speech is to go
from big to small.
• Speak with integrity, passion and transparency.
• When you get an inspirational speech right, you will rally your team
around the message and massively increase engagement.
18. #7 Celebrate Work Anniversaries
• If you have a large team, then most days may be a work anniversary
for someone.
• Make a quick post recognizing the team member.
• I recommend using a free tool like Canva to make a quick graphic
that says “Ganesh: Happy 7 Year Work Anniversary!”
• We can simply replace the name and number for other employees
based on the data.
19. #8 Themed Days
• For remote workers, days can be mundane, with one day blending
into the other.
• It allows people to still have a "fun aspect" to the otherwise
mundane days.
• Themed days also allow you to be as creative as possible.
• "Dress Like Your Favorite Character" Day, "Show Your Pets At
Zoom Calls" Day, etc.
20.
21. #9 Give Time Off
• Thinking of how to make your remote worker's
birthdays/anniversaries memorable? Or to congratulate them on a
job well done?
• Give them the day off!
• A day off with no responsibilities, meetings, or conference calls to
worry about.
• It can be the day to get a full day's sleep.
• Or catch up on their favorite movies.
• Or to simply bond with their kids
22. #10 Virtually Honour Mental Health
• Strong mental health is a key component in nurturing employee
engagement.
• Invite team members to a guided group meditation
• Promote and remind employees of mental health benefits.
23. #11 Spreadsheet Pixel Art
• Art with spreadsheet software!
• You probably think about formulas and calculations like I do.
• But, spreadsheets are a powerful tool that you can even use for art
that emulates Picasso, da Vinci, and Monet.
• Here is a free template you can use to get started: Spreadsheet Pixel
Art Template.
24. #12 Mister Rogers Calls
• 1 on 1 video connections we call Mister Rogers Calls.
• The name is a fun spin on the purpose of the calls, which is to get to
know your remote work neighbors.
• Functionally, each week an app randomly matches two people on
our remote team.
• The team members then schedule a call for sometime during the
week.
• The only guideline for the call is that it is about 10 to 30 minutes,
and you aren’t allowed to talk about work!
25. #13 Online Team Building Bingo
• How to play?
1. Make a customizable bingo card in online or get a ready made
bingo template from online team building bingo.
2. Award prizes! Even a 50 Rs gift card would do great.
3. Provide enough time to play. For example, you may want to game
to span an entire week so your people have more opportunities to
connect.
27. #14 Quick Workout
• Encourage your people to do a rapid round of aerobics, push-ups,
burpees, jumping jacks or similar.
• When you work at a computer, even 30 seconds of mildly intense
activity can be enough to get your heart rate up and your brow
sweaty.
• After all health matters isn’t it?
28.
29. #15 Mini Dance Party
• Instead of forcing your remote team into awkward conversation,
consider holding an awkward dance party instead.
• Play a step by step dance tutorial from YouTube.
• The brave people on your team will get right to it, and the others
will come around too.
• After a minute or two you will have a raging mini dance party that
will help energize your people more than coffee ever could.
30. #16 The Question Game
• The Question Game is a fun and free online team building activity
that requires no prep or special equipment.
• To start playing, ask someone a question, and that person must
respond with a question directed back at you or another participant.
If you delay for five seconds then you are out.
• If you speak without forming a question then you are out too
• Here is an example of how this game might go:
• Ally: “It’s a beautiful day, don’t you you think Jackie?”
• Jackie: “What do you think makes it beautiful, Michael?”
• Michael: “Sorry, I was writing a blog article.”
• A more clever Michael would have said,
“Sorry, what was that, Jackie?” and kept moving the game forward.

Editor's Notes
1. “Employee engagement is nothing more but the process of making employees feel happy, satisfied, and loyal towards their place of work. Its significance increases especially looking at the dynamic trends at work.”
2. “A lot of companies heavily invest in their employee experience initiatives and benefits. Still, they fail to get some of the basics right. There is a misconception that talented people are only drawn to companies with great benefits. Research shows most people are looking for meaningful work, values, and impact-led companies and to work with people from whom they can grow and learn. Clear career pathways and talent succession are just as important as great employee perks.”

Talk about the wide market your company serves, or even the state of humanity, then narrow down to the specifics of what your people do and how it impacts things.
