4. WHAT IS SOLAR SYSTEM?
The region of the universe near
the sun that includes the sun ,
the eight planets and their
moons or satellites , and
objects such as asteroids and
comets that travel in
independent orbits.
5. Our solar system consist of an average
star we call the Sun , the planets mercury
,Venus , Earth, Mars, Jupiter , Saturn
,Uranus ,Neptune .
6.
7. FORMATION OF SOLAR SYSTEM-
Scientist believe that the solar system
was formed when a cloud of gas and
dust in space was disturbed, may be by
the explosion of a nearby star called a
supernova.
This explosion made waves in space
which squeezed the cloud of gas and
dust.
8. PLANETS
There are 8 planets in the solar system .
Planets are round and move around the sun.
The largest planet in the solar system is jupiter ,
followed by saturn , uranus , neptune , earth ,
venus , mars with the smallest being mercury.
Mercury has wild temperature swings.
Venus has a blistering surface.
Uranus has a weird tilt.
Neptune has wild stream winds running at 1500
mph.
9. THE SUN
. The scientific name is SOL
. It contains about 98% of all rocks, dust
and gas in the solar system.
. If hollow, one million earth could fit
inside
. It acts as a giant magnet
. The sun’s surface is 6,000 degrees
celcius, but it’s atmosphere is
millions of degrees
10. LUNA
. Luna is earth’s moon.
. Luna is 240,000 miles away from sun.
. It has many mountains, valleys, old volcanoes, craters.
Craters are caused by asteroids and commets colliding with
the moon.
. Luna and earth are very close in size.
. The dark spots you see on it are actually hardened beds of
lava. The Moon used to have active volcanoes with liquid,
and when the moon was struck by an asteroid or comet, it
would puncture the surface of the moon and cause lava to
ooze out of it.The lava hardened and that caused the dark
spots you see today.
