Editor's Notes
Miller Commercial Real Estate (FIRM): In 2012 they had 72% market share in their market for Listings sold/leased and 89% of their market share in Sales/Lease volume. Resource: FlexMLS: Commercial Improvied/Commerical Lease in Wicomico County, MD This year, they had one advisor, Henry Hanna in the Partner's Circle; and Bradley Gillis, John McClellan and Ben Alder were honored as Achievers. Despite all this, they also were the firm most affected by Hurricane Sandy. Sperry Van Ness, LLC (COLLABORATOR): For their entire office contributing the most new listings and recent closings to the Monday Morning Calls. For hosting two of the four annual Boot Camps in 2012 and 2013. Being generous with their time when it comes to helping us try to replicate their model with other established firm prospects.
Jennifer Donathan (ROOKIE): Jennifer attributes her high level of success in 2012 to working hard at maintaining an organized, complete, and accurate database of investors for her asset type. She also communicates with these investors on a regular basis usually through email blasts. Once she secures listings she utilizes those listings to reach out to surrounding property owners and to further promote herself and her credibility. She has had a lot of success calling property owners near a property she already has listed or has recently sold. In a nut shell, a few listings and sales led to other listings through referrals. Being able to successfully get to the finish line with similar properties gained her credibility within her target market. Walter Helm (HUMANITARIAN): Walter has shown tremendous leadership with his help in the Leads for Good initiative. Walter has made an incredible impact through his commitment to training dogs for Canine Companions for Independence. Walter is also a dedicated Rotarian who has been involved in many local and regional fundraisers. A little know fact about Walter is that he participated in the Rotary International fundraising/public awareness motorcycle marathon around the perimeter of Australia for the world wide eradication of polio.
Tony Yousif (PROSPECTOR): Making an effort to meet with clients, face to face, no matter where they are nationally. Meet with colleagues across the nation, brokers that Tony deal’s with all the time. Nothing beats face to face. Try to be available to clients and colleagues at ALL times, nights, weekends – whenever. Helped introduce current and future clients to his network of CPA’s, Attorneys, Title, Escrow Officers – the people in his network really helped to reciprocate by introducing Tony to new clients nationwide. Made property management and asset management a larger part of his practice Kept in front of banks, receivers, bankruptcy trustees, and started to call on private equity firms that purchased most of the distressed loan pools from the FDIC and Failed Banks Set specific time during the week for ONLY prospecting Created a compelling value proposition through the single point of contact – was able to ask for testimonials from US Bank and others who have been more than happy with the single point of contact relationship John Rickert (TEAM PLAYER): Sperry Van Ness/RICORE Investment Management, Inc. and John Rickert provided national scope services for Colony Capital. Tony Yousif recognized a need at Colony Capital to on-board, lease, manage to value and dispose of Colony’s distressed asset pool. SVN-RICORE created the management and accounting solution for this assignment and created a training program for the “boots on the ground” Property Management Service Providers, many of whom are in the SVN franchise network. At this time, SVN-RICORE in conjunction with Tony Yousif manages approximately 30 assets for Colony and the number of assets coming into the SVN program grows weekly.
Ryan Imbrie (INNOVATOR): Uses readily available technology to increase his productivity. You will never find him very far from an iPad where he accesses ALL of his listings, due diligence and database contacts with the swipe of a finger. Ryan was using his iPad at the ICSC Recon show in Las Vegas. During his meeting he was able to show his clients his existing inventory on the iPad when most brokers were still dragging around massive binders of their flyers. He has the SVN difference slides in iBooks so it can be shown whenever there is an opportunity. Some of Ryan’s recommended Apps for advisors included: LoopNet, DropBox (file sharing/storage), Upad (note taking), Splashtop (access your desktop), MagicPlan (floor plan creation), BA Fin Pro (financial calculator). Mark Alexander (TRAINER): Mark takes his role as Product Council Chair to heart, regularly sharing his knowledge and time. With over 100 people calling in each month to his council calls, he’s done a great job of blending his own expertise with outside expert. Assisted Laura Salome deal in El Paso.
Curt Arthur (AMBASSADOR): Curt Arthur from Salem, OR bleed SVN blue! Curt and his team went from a start up to number one in their market in less than two years and took a market that had never heard of the brand previously into making Sperry Van Ness a well known commodity in the Willamette Valley. Curt and his team host the only annual commercial real estate Economic Forum event in their market, attended by approximately 250 of community, business, and real estate leaders in Oregon. Regionally, Curt has gone to great lengths to strengthen the Sperry Van Ness brand in the Pacific Northwest by assisting company leaders in helping recruit outside firms looking to come into the SVN brand. His work was vital in helping Sperry Van Ness establish a foothold in the Seattle market in 2008 and to expand in Portland, Oregon in 2010. Personally, Curt is working tertiary markets throughout Oregon and is expected to open additional Sperry Van Ness offices in Oregon as branch offices of his company. Nationally, Curt serves on the National Advisory Board for Sperry Van Ness International and assists in guiding the brand nationally. He is regularly called upon to participate in national recruiting calls as well as to be a speaker, or moderator, at national events for the company. Curt is traditionally a top 50 producer for Sperry Van Ness International and was the recipient of the 2010 Humanitarian of the Year for his community service in the market he lives and works.
