The Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) was founded in 1970 and is affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions. It is one of the largest trade unions in India, with a strong presence in Tripura and West Bengal. CITU organizes various industrial federations, including plantation, steel, transport, coal, construction, road transport, electricity, and anganwadi workers. In 2019, CITU began celebrating 100 years of workers' struggles in India and 50 years of fighting for workers' unity. More recently, CITU has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the Hathras gang rape case and exemplary punishment. 5. 100 years of Struggles and Sacrifices’
of the Working Class of India
BEGINNING on 30 May 2019, CITU is going for a year
long celebration of “100 years of struggles and
sacrifices” of the working class of India, since the
formation of the First Trade Union Centre, and “50 years
of fight for unity of the working class” since the
formation of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions.

CITU, AIKS, AIAWU and AIDWA demand Time bound
effective enquiry of Hathras case under the supervision of
Supreme Court.
Dalit girl who was brutally gang raped and killed by
upper caste landlord men. It is with great difficulty the
delegation was allowed by the police to go the house of
the victim. The village is still cordoned and their
neighbors are terrorized.

dependents, and those who were in solidarity
actions and supported the strike across the
country constituted almost half of India’s total
133.92 crore population.
