3. Reasoning for report and these animations
Limited research has been carried out on the potential for
driver distraction caused by wind turbines
and very little has been specifically identified from the UK
However, research has demonstrated the significant potential
for driver distraction caused by other external factors
In particular the effects of even small and/or animated adverts.
have been shown to have significant impact
whatever the grade of road
In consequence recommendations have been enforced
SMART strongly suggest that these omitted key safety aspects
for the proposed Crown Hill Wind Farm should have been
thoroughly investigated by Wind Ventures – Safety comes First
The proposed wind farm will straddle a major road, the B6047, renowned for accidents
The turbines will be highly visible from distances of many miles from several other A roads

5. Health Warning
The visualisations presented here are based on the principles
given in the SMART Objections Document CH1, Appendix 9.
The wind industry recommends a 50mm focal length camera
that produces images similar to those presented here
However, recent research has demonstrated that these generally
significantly understate the full impact that wind turbines create
Current thinking that is being adopted is that a 75 mm focal length
produces far more realistic images – ie. significantly larger
Therefore the images presented here are likely to
understate the impact on driver distraction
