About Women’s Day
Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one
of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century.
Women are increasingly being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than
men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural
resources which climate change threatens the most.
At the same time, women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for cli-
mate adaptation and mitigation. They are involved in sustainability initiatives around the world,
and their participation and leadership results in more effective climate action.
Continuing to examine the opportunities, as well as the constraints, to empower women and
girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sus-
tainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality. Without gender
equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond our reach.
This International Women’s Day, let’s claim “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

OUR ARTISAN’S STORY
Dhanalakshmi
Dhanalakshmi from our Koratagere production unit has Locomo-
tor Disability (left hand). After one year of marriage,Dhanalakshmi
had a baby and unfortunately, the baby passed away within a year
due to health issues. She was suffering due to many family issues.
Despite all these difficulties, Dhanalakshmi has been determined
to improve her life and took up tailoring training facilitated by us.
She is exploring different stitching & embroidery techniques. She
is increasing her skills, which is resulting in gaining employment
opportunities and a better living standard for her and her family.
Screw Pine craft
Rukmini AC and Lalitha AC are twin sisters from the
outskirts of Kodungallur, Kerala. Both the sisters are
physically challenged and are unable to walk proper-
ly. There were times when Rukmini and Lalitha were
finding it difficult to earn for their living. The situation
changed when they started as helpers at the “Angan-
wadi” and then moved to our training centre for learn-
ing the procedure of weaving products from screw
pine fibres as a part time. They now are working with
our centre fulltime. Now, both Rukmini and Lalitha
are earning

Rohith is Non-verbal Autistic Individual. He is really good at
Art. Initially, he showed some hyperactive behavior and re-
petitive hand flapping and jumping, but drawing & painting
keeps him absorbed. He is getting trained with is
from past 4.5 years and has now trained on different works
such as paper making, weaving, Diya painting and typing.
This has helped Rohith immensely to remain engaged and
reduced his tantrums.
