2. FIT Barnes & Noble Education: Mission
“Our mission is to create campus stores that are focal
points for college life and learning, enhancing the
educational mission of the institution, enlivening campus
culture and delivering a strong and consistent revenue
stream to our partner schools.”
8. Areas for Improvement
❖ Increase spirit wear merchandise
❖ Increase social aspect (ie. adding coffee, tea, extra seating,
lounge area, wifi, etc.)
❖ Social Media - use to communicate new merchandise to
your customers
❖ Miscellaneous goods (umbrella, deodorant, dry shampoo,
phone charger, headphones, etc.)
9. Barnes & Noble FIT bookstore: Percentages of Sales
❖ Textbooks: 50%

❖ School Supplies:10%
❖ Convenience: 3%
❖ Fashion and Reading Books: 3%
❖ Art Supplies: 2%
10. Textbooks: 50%
Barnes and Noble Education should promote the
“Nook” portion of their business. This could be a
tremendous opportunity to help promote paperless
learning.
Create a stronger program that re-enforces bringing
back used textbooks, whether to get money back or
get money towards the bookstore.
Only buy new and updated textbooks whenever
possible.
11. Textbooks: 50% ● Yuzu is the new digital
content reading and
study platform from
Barnes & Noble College
● Purchase textbooks from
the Yuzu Platform
● Replaced NookStudy
this year
● Available for iPad or
web browsers, so it may
be a cheaper alternative
to forcing everyone to
have a Nook
● Easily accessible for
students and teachers
13. Spirit Wear: 11%
Work with the Sustainability club to find more affordable vendors
to do business with each semester to create community
involvement. (Like this class!)
Work with the senior design major students to pay them, instead
of a vendor, to create one of a kind pieces for the bookstore.
Locally made product! What better way to support a fellow
student?
When spirit wear is green or ethically made, promote more of it!
Tell the story of how it was made on a simple advertisement
located above the garment rack selling the clothing. This
encourages people to spend more on these products and not
the mass produced ones.

$28 “A reference guide on eco-fashion. The book discusses methods to reduce waste in the fashion industry and features essays and pieces from prominent thinkers.”
$26 “The area of recycling and upcycling is a rich and growing source of innovative design in the fashion and accessories industries. In a fast-fashion world of throw-away clothing, it is the ultimate expression of the slow-fashion movement, with each piece individually conceived and crafted from scratch, using different materials each time. ReFashioned features 46 international designers who work with recycled materials and discarded garments, reinvigorating them with new life and value. The result is beautiful and desirable clothing and accessories that also make an important statement to the fashion world about its wasteful and exploitative practices.”
