Princess Diana once said, “I don't want expensive gifts; I don't want to be bought. I have everything I want. I just want someone to be there for me, to make me feel safe and secure.” Tragically, she lost her life never having found the security she longed for. But Diana expressed one of the greatest longings of the human heart. We live in a chaotic world that seems to give us no guarantees. Yet, Jesus assured His followers that they were safe and secure in His Father’s hands. And as he asserts His essential oneness with the Father, he makes it clear that he too safeguards His followers. An essential part of our identity in Christ is that we are secured!
