3. The relationship we have with our member physicians is that of a medical home.
As an accredited CME provider we educate them through our publications, online learning
centers and self assessment tools as well as through our national and local meetings.
We advocate for them via our offices in Washington D.C. and are their voice on
Capitol Hill regarding reimbursement & policy change.
We make the news while our competitors
merely report it. We have a relationship
with our physicians other than being just a
a publication or web site.
This is why our competitors exhibit at our

17. What Is a Hospitalist?
• Hospitalists are providers dedicated to the care of hospitalized patients.
• They focus on clinical management, with a focus on quality, safety, and
utilization.
• Most hospitalists (80%) are trained in Internal Medicine.
Why is a hospitalist different from a traditional provider?
• A hospitalist is available to care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a
hospitalist is on board when a patient needs care.
• Generally, hospitalists work 12-hour shifts seven days in a row. Evenings may be
covered by a nocturnists—hospitalists who only work at night. Hospitalists focus
on quality, safety, and resource allocation.
In essence, hospitalists are providers who dedicate their career to the care of the
hospitalized patient and work toward a safer, higher-quality, evidence-based,
patient-centered hospital stay.
