Thailand has a tropical climate with three seasons and is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. The main currency is the Thai baht. While Thailand has had border conflicts with neighbors like Myanmar and Cambodia, it also engages in border trade. The country has recently seen increased terrorism attacks near elections. Thailand has a population of over 68 million and its economy relies on exports like electronics, vehicles and agriculture while imports include machinery, crude oil and chemicals.

■ Thailand’s climate ranges from the sub-
tropical to the tropical zones, with three
distinct seasons: a hot and dry season from
February to May, a monsoon season from June
to October, and a cooler, dry season from
November to January. Average seasonal
temperatures vary between a low of 23.0 °C
and a high of 32.2 °C.
5. Government Structure
■ Thailand is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional
monarchy. The administration of the country is carried out by
the prime minister – elected through an open vote by
members of the House of Representatives – and the cabinet
that the prime minister forms. The Kingdom has a bi-cameral
legislature and an independent judiciary.
6. Currency
■ Thailand’s currency unit is the Baht, which is divided into 100 satangs. Notes
are in 20 baht (green), 50 baht (blue), 100 baht (red), 500 baht (purple), and
1,000 baht (brown) denominations. The exchange rates against the US dollars
averaged out at 36.43 baht to US$ 1. Coins are valued at 25 and 50 satangs
(brass-colored), 1 baht (nickel), 2 baht (brass/nickel), 5 baht (nickel with copper
rim), and 10 baht (nickel with a brass center).

The Broadcasting and Television Business Act 2008
- regulates the licensing and operation of broadcasting
and television businesses
- National Broadcasting and Telecommunications
Commission (NBTC) is responsible for overseeing the
broadcasting and telecommunications industries
Film and Video Act 2008
- regulates the production, distribution, and exhibition of
films and videos
- Film and Video Censorship Committee is responsible
for classifying films and videos and issuing permits for
their distribution and exhibition.
Ministerial Regulations on Classification of Films 2009
- provides guidance on how the Film and Video
Censorship Committee should classify films and videos
- regulations also set out the age restrictions for each
classification category.
23. IMPACT OF COVID
- Over 50% of respondents were affected by job losses, temporary work stoppage, and reduced number of working hours
or reduced pay
- Over 70% of the interviewed households experienced a decline in their income since March 2020, many households
reported running out of food
- Around 57% enrolled children in households faced learning issues
- Around one-third of households that needed medical assistance could not access the services due to concerns about
getting infected with COVID-19
