Introduction to Gilt Investments Pty Ltd
Who is Gilt Investments Pty Ltd?
Gilt Investments Pty Ltd (‘Gilts’) is a privately owned fixed-income broking service based in Brisbane. Gilts was established in 2011
by its Managing Director, Alastair Healey. Alastair has worked in the Australian Financial Market for over twenty five years and has
developed strong relationships with domestic and offshore business communities and individuals. As a holder of an Australian
Financial Services Licence (AFSL), Gilts activities are regulated by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (‘ASIC’).
What is fixed income?
Fixed income refers to a group of investment products that generally have a fixed term and generate a regular series of interest
payments. These investments, also known as fixed interest investments or fixed interest securities, can pay interest either at
maturity or throughout the term in the form of ‘coupons’. A coupon is interest paid to the investor at regular intervals throughout
the life of the security, and is typically expressed as a percentage per annum.
Some examples of investments which pay interest at maturity include:
 Bank bills
 Promissory notes
 Negotiable Certificates of Deposit (NCDs)
Investments that pay regular interest payments (i.e. coupons) include:
 Long term deposits (depending on the terms)
 Bonds
The service
Gilts is a licensed dealer and specialist in fixed income financial products. Gilts provides guidance and access to all fixed income
financial products; including, but not limited to, government and semi-government bonds, discount securities, corporate
debentures, bonds including hybrids, deposit and payment products, floating rate notes, residential mortgage backed securities,
asset backed securities, and structured products and managed investment products.
Under its Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), Gilts is licensed by ASIC to:
 Deal in certain financial products, including deposit & payment products, government bonds, and securities; and
 Provide financial product advice to retail and wholesale clients.
Gilts is one of the few companies dedicated to providing a specialist fixed income service in Australia. The company focuses on
providing domestic and foreign clients with access to Australian short- and long-dated fixed income products.
Independence and Impartiality
Gilts independence and impartiality are important and distinguishing elements of its service. Gilts is a private company whose
shares are wholly owned by its Managing Director. It is not owned by, or a division of any financial institution, product originator, or
external company. Furthermore, Gilts does not create or issue its own product. This impartiality is vital in sourcing and advising on
fixed income products from a broad range of financial institutions, product providers, and originators. It also enables the
development of honest and open relationships with clients, and the ability to provide unbiased guidance in managing clients fixed
income investments in Australia. This philosophy allows Gilts to truly partner with investors and maximise returns from their fixed
income products.

The fixed interest market
Gilts provides access to fixed income products being traded on the primary and secondary markets.
Primary issues service
The primary market refers to the market wherein securities are issued for the first time for purchase by investors. Organisations
which issue fixed income securities are referred to as 'issuers'. The most active issuers of bonds today are governments and
government agencies (government bonds), banks and corporations (corporate bonds). ‘Issuers’ utilise the primary market to raise
fresh funding for business operations and/or expansion. Products issued in the primary market can include: short-dated discount
securities, bonds, floating rate notes, and/or hybrids. A prospectus is provided by the originators who then approach companies
such as Gilts to distribute the product to their client base.
Secondary markets service
After investments are issued and placed into the market by specialists such as Gilts, they can be traded in the secondary market.
Gilts aims to provide wholesale and retail clients, where possible, direct entry to the secondary market. This service is invaluable to
clients, as the majority of investors are unable to access the secondary market because of a minimum parcel size. Gilts is able to
provide current market live pricing on all tradeable fixed income stock, as well as the ability to search for specifically requested
stock to suit individual portfolios.
Due to the fixed income asset class being less accessible than other asset classes (e.g. property), information is also more difficult to
obtain. In order to mitigate these difficulties, Gilts provides regular emails and reports to clients to maintain their knowledgeable of
market movements. Being aware of economic announcements, flow of trades, and new issuing activity, will guarantee better
insights into a market that has largely been overlooked by investors.
Finally, all security prices provided to clients will be exclusive prices. The brokerage cost and/or margin charged will be deducted
beforehand, and therefore the yield quoted will be the yield received. This enables clients to easily compare prices provided by Gilts
to other prices in the market.
The benefits for investors using companies such as Gilt Investments
Gilt Investments helps clients navigate through the choices available by carefully assessing clients’ individual needs and concerns.
In particular, Gilts takes into account – clients cash flow needs, required flexibility in entering and leaving the market (i.e. liquidity),
desired investment term (i.e. time to maturity), risk appetite, and money available to invest
(i.e. face value). After careful consideration of these factors, Gilts is able to discuss expected returns with the client (yield).
Gilt provides the following services:
 Sources the best term and cash deposit rates available,
 accesses all government, corporate and bank bond markets,
 will assist you in your investment choices by providing guidance on – however not limited to – product selection, risk,
liquidity and term,
 provide daily market commentary and statistics,
 Investment History Reports and portfolio summaries are provided to clients to help streamline their accounting and
monitor their investments.
“Between 1996 and 2004, fixed income had similar returns to other investments; and between mid-2008 to 2009 fixed income
actually generated better returns than equities (Brailsford et al, 2011). These figures highlight the potential of fixed income to not
only appease various risks, but also to generate desired investment returns.”

Carol Kitzelman – Operations Manager
After completing school in the early 1980s, Carol began a science degree. However,
she decided after a year that science was not to be her future career direction and
took a job with Queensland Treasury Department. It was here that Carol gained
experience in the investments division and decided that this was where her interests
lay. This was the era of physical stock and paper-based accounts. Carol started out
recording, undertaking the physical settlements, and preparing the accounts. Over
the coming years settlements became electronic, more financial products came on
the market and computers systems were put in place to keep track of investments.
Carol has worked for various agencies, including Queensland Treasury Corporation
and Queensland Investment Corporation. However, she has always worked in the
settlement area, aside from a short time spent helping on the Equities dealing desk.
When Carol left Queensland Investment Corporation in 2000 to have a family, she
was the Manager of the Investment Administration Branch. In this role, Carol was
responsible for staffing, settlements, budgets, and reporting. This required liaising
with all divisions of the Corporation.
In addition Carol has completed various Securities Institute and ASX courses.

How Gilts operates
Terms and conditions
Gilts operates as a dealer in fixed income financial products. Its role is to assist you in obtaining the best rates of return on fixed
income investments within your requirements. Gilt Investments will only deal with you and act upon your instructions on the basis
of the terms and conditions set out in this FSG.
Gilts does not act as the agent of the issuers of fixed income products, or Approved Deposit-Taking Institutions, and is not
responsible for any payments to be made by them to you.
Providing instructions
When using Gilts’ services, you will be assisted by a representative who has been employed by and acts on behalf of Gilts. The
representative’s name will appear on any contract notes or trade confirmations issued by Gilt Investments.
You may provide instructions to the representative by telephone, email, facsimile or post using the contact details contained in the
introduction to this FSG. Gilts will act upon those instructions to purchase, rollover or sell fixed income products. In doing so, Gilts
will generally act as the counterparty (i.e. the seller or buyer of the product). Gilts will also act upon your instructions in relation to
making, rolling-over, redeeming or reinvesting term deposit investments.
If you fail to provide Gilts with written or oral instructions for an existing fixed income or term deposit investment, then (subject to
the policy of the issuer of the fixed income product or the Approved Deposit-Taking Institution) Gilts will arrange for your
investment to be rolled-over until further instructions are received from you. Gilts acts as your agent when doing these things.
Gilts will maintain a record of your investments as well as any correspondence relating to these investments. These files are all
available for your examination if required.
Benefits & commissions
Gilts does not charge its clients a fee or commission for its services. It derives its income from the following three sources:
Gilt Investments Pty Ltd AFSL - 404 921 ABN - 26 150 469 159
Address: Level 2, 149 Wickham Tce, Spring Hill, QLD 4000 • Postal: GPO Box 1717, Brisbane, QLD 4001
Telephone: +61 7 3123 7132 • Facsimile +61 7 3123 7142 • www.giltinvestments.com
Acting as principal
When Gilt Investments acts as the counterparty (that is, the seller or purchaser) of a fixed income product, it will receive a margin
on the sale of that product. This may be done by purchasing the product in Gilts’ name at a price and then selling it to you at a
slightly higher price, or by purchasing a product from you in Gilts’ name at a price and then selling it at a slightly higher price. The
price quoted to you by Gilts for a product is net of Gilts’ margin. Depending upon the size and duration of the product, this margin
is likely to be less than 0.25% of the yield to maturity.
Acting as a broker
When Gilt Investments acts as a broker of deposit facilities offered by Approved Deposit-Taking Institutions, Gilt will receive a
margin on the interest rate offered on the deposit. The interest rates quoted to you by Gilts on deposits, are net of Gilts’ margin.
The bank or financial institution providing the deposit facility is responsible for paying Gilts the margin, which is likely to be less than
0.25% of the yield received on the deposit.
Distributing new issues or products
When Gilts acts as the distributor of new issues and fixed income products originated by third parties, Gilt will receive a commission
from the originator. In these instances, the commission payable differs with each issue. The level of commission will be disclosed in
the PDS for the issue and is likely to be in the range of 0.25% to 1.50% of the amount invested.
Representatives
Gilts does not remunerate its representatives upon individual transactions by Gilts’ clients. Rather, Gilts remunerates its
representatives by a salary, plus a monthly bonus of the net revenue generated by that person during that month if certain key
performance indicators are reached. An annual bonus may also be paid if other key performance indicators are reached. The
remuneration to Gilts representatives will be paid from (and therefore be less than) the margins or commission paid to Gilts set out
above.
Benefits for those who refer clients to Gilts
Gilts may pay a commission or other benefit to an external party who referred you to Gilts or to someone nominated by the
external, if you enter into a transaction. That commission or other benefit will not be a fixed amount or based upon a set formula
but will be paid from (and therefore be less than) the margins or commission paid to Gilts set out above and recorded in the
contract note or trade confirmation.

Gilt Investments Pty Ltd (‘Gilts’) is a privately owned fixed-income broking service based in Brisbane. Gilts was established in 2011 by its Managing Director, Alastair Healey. Alastair has worked in the Australian Financial Market for over twenty five years and has developed strong relationships with domestic and offshore business communities and individuals. As a holder of an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), Gilts activities are regulated by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (‘ASIC’). What is fixed income? Fixed income refers to a group of investment products that generally have a fixed term and generate a regular series of interest payments. These investments, also known as fixed interest investments or fixed interest securities, can pay interest either at maturity or throughout the term in the form of ‘coupons’. A coupon is interest paid to the investor at regular intervals throughout the life of the security, and is typically expressed as a percentage per annum. Some examples of investments which pay interest at maturity include:  Bank bills  Promissory notes  Negotiable Certificates of Deposit (NCDs) Investments that pay regular interest payments (i.e. coupons) include:  Long term deposits (depending on the terms)  Bonds The service Gilts is a licensed dealer and specialist in fixed income financial products. Gilts provides guidance and access to all fixed income financial products; including, but not limited to, government and semi-government bonds, discount securities, corporate debentures, bonds including hybrids, deposit and payment products, floating rate notes, residential mortgage backed securities, asset backed securities, and structured products and managed investment products. Under its Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), Gilts is licensed by ASIC to:  Deal in certain financial products, including deposit & payment products, government bonds, and securities; and  Provide financial product advice to retail and wholesale clients. Gilts is one of the few companies dedicated to providing a specialist fixed income service in Australia. The company focuses on providing domestic and foreign clients with access to Australian short- and long-dated fixed income products. Independence and Impartiality Gilts independence and impartiality are important and distinguishing elements of its service. Gilts is a private company whose shares are wholly owned by its Managing Director. It is not owned by, or a division of any financial institution, product originator, or external company. Furthermore, Gilts does not create or issue its own product. This impartiality is vital in sourcing and advising on fixed income products from a broad range of financial institutions, product providers, and originators. It also enables the development of honest and open relationships with clients, and the ability to provide unbiased guidance in managing clients fixed income investments in Australia. This philosophy allows Gilts to truly partner with investors and maximise returns from their fixed income products.
  • 2. Gilt Investments Pty Ltd AFSL - 404 921 ABN - 26 150 469 159 Address: Level 2, 149 Wickham Tce, Spring Hill, QLD 4000 • Postal: GPO Box 1717, Brisbane, QLD 4001 Telephone: +61 7 3123 7132 • Facsimile +61 7 3123 7142 • www.giltinvestments.com The fixed interest market Gilts provides access to fixed income products being traded on the primary and secondary markets. Primary issues service The primary market refers to the market wherein securities are issued for the first time for purchase by investors. Organisations which issue fixed income securities are referred to as 'issuers'. The most active issuers of bonds today are governments and government agencies (government bonds), banks and corporations (corporate bonds). ‘Issuers’ utilise the primary market to raise fresh funding for business operations and/or expansion. Products issued in the primary market can include: short-dated discount securities, bonds, floating rate notes, and/or hybrids. A prospectus is provided by the originators who then approach companies such as Gilts to distribute the product to their client base. Secondary markets service After investments are issued and placed into the market by specialists such as Gilts, they can be traded in the secondary market. Gilts aims to provide wholesale and retail clients, where possible, direct entry to the secondary market. This service is invaluable to clients, as the majority of investors are unable to access the secondary market because of a minimum parcel size. Gilts is able to provide current market live pricing on all tradeable fixed income stock, as well as the ability to search for specifically requested stock to suit individual portfolios. Due to the fixed income asset class being less accessible than other asset classes (e.g. property), information is also more difficult to obtain. In order to mitigate these difficulties, Gilts provides regular emails and reports to clients to maintain their knowledgeable of market movements. Being aware of economic announcements, flow of trades, and new issuing activity, will guarantee better insights into a market that has largely been overlooked by investors. Finally, all security prices provided to clients will be exclusive prices. The brokerage cost and/or margin charged will be deducted beforehand, and therefore the yield quoted will be the yield received. This enables clients to easily compare prices provided by Gilts to other prices in the market. The benefits for investors using companies such as Gilt Investments Gilt Investments helps clients navigate through the choices available by carefully assessing clients’ individual needs and concerns. In particular, Gilts takes into account – clients cash flow needs, required flexibility in entering and leaving the market (i.e. liquidity), desired investment term (i.e. time to maturity), risk appetite, and money available to invest (i.e. face value). After careful consideration of these factors, Gilts is able to discuss expected returns with the client (yield). Gilt provides the following services:  Sources the best term and cash deposit rates available,  accesses all government, corporate and bank bond markets,  will assist you in your investment choices by providing guidance on – however not limited to – product selection, risk, liquidity and term,  provide daily market commentary and statistics,  Investment History Reports and portfolio summaries are provided to clients to help streamline their accounting and monitor their investments. “Between 1996 and 2004, fixed income had similar returns to other investments; and between mid-2008 to 2009 fixed income actually generated better returns than equities (Brailsford et al, 2011). These figures highlight the potential of fixed income to not only appease various risks, but also to generate desired investment returns.”

However, she decided after a year that science was not to be her future career direction and took a job with Queensland Treasury Department. It was here that Carol gained experience in the investments division and decided that this was where her interests lay. This was the era of physical stock and paper-based accounts. Carol started out recording, undertaking the physical settlements, and preparing the accounts. Over the coming years settlements became electronic, more financial products came on the market and computers systems were put in place to keep track of investments. Carol has worked for various agencies, including Queensland Treasury Corporation and Queensland Investment Corporation. However, she has always worked in the settlement area, aside from a short time spent helping on the Equities dealing desk. When Carol left Queensland Investment Corporation in 2000 to have a family, she was the Manager of the Investment Administration Branch. In this role, Carol was responsible for staffing, settlements, budgets, and reporting. This required liaising with all divisions of the Corporation. Gilts business interests and associations Gilts is a private company whose shares are wholly owned by the Managing Director. It is not owned by, or a division of any financial institution or product originator; nor does it have any interest, association or relationship with any financial institution or product originator which could influence Gilts’ investments. This allows Gilt Investments to source fixed income products from a very broad range of financial institutions, product providers and originators. Gilts insurance requirements We have professional indemnity insurance in place and feel confident that it is a reasonable arrangement to have for compensating our retail clients for any loss or damage they may suffer should we or one of our representatives be found to have caused them to suffer loss or damage due to a breach of a relevant obligation under Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act. Subject to all statutory limitation periods, our insurance arrangements cover work done under our AFSL by our representatives even when they cease to be our representatives. How Gilts operates Terms and conditions Gilts operates as a dealer in fixed income financial products. Its role is to assist you in obtaining the best rates of return on fixed income investments within your requirements. Gilt Investments will only deal with you and act upon your instructions on the basis of the terms and conditions set out in this FSG. Gilts does not act as the agent of the issuers of fixed income products, or Approved Deposit-Taking Institutions, and is not responsible for any payments to be made by them to you. Providing instructions When using Gilts’ services, you will be assisted by a representative who has been employed by and acts on behalf of Gilts. The representative’s name will appear on any contract notes or trade confirmations issued by Gilt Investments. You may provide instructions to the representative by telephone, email, facsimile or post using the contact details contained in the introduction to this FSG. Gilts will act upon those instructions to purchase, rollover or sell fixed income products. In doing so, Gilts will generally act as the counterparty (i.e. the seller or buyer of the product). Gilts will also act upon your instructions in relation to making, rolling-over, redeeming or reinvesting term deposit investments. If you fail to provide Gilts with written or oral instructions for an existing fixed income or term deposit investment, then (subject to the policy of the issuer of the fixed income product or the Approved Deposit-Taking Institution) Gilts will arrange for your investment to be rolled-over until further instructions are received from you. Gilts acts as your agent when doing these things. Gilts will maintain a record of your investments as well as any correspondence relating to these investments. These files are all available for your examination if required. Benefits & commissions Gilts does not charge its clients a fee or commission for its services. It derives its income from the following three sources:
  • 9. This may be done by purchasing the product in Gilts’ name at a price and then selling it to you at a slightly higher price, or by purchasing a product from you in Gilts’ name at a price and then selling it at a slightly higher price. The price quoted to you by Gilts for a product is net of Gilts’ margin. Depending upon the size and duration of the product, this margin is likely to be less than 0.25% of the yield to maturity. Acting as a broker When Gilt Investments acts as a broker of deposit facilities offered by Approved Deposit-Taking Institutions, Gilt will receive a margin on the interest rate offered on the deposit. The interest rates quoted to you by Gilts on deposits, are net of Gilts’ margin. The bank or financial institution providing the deposit facility is responsible for paying Gilts the margin, which is likely to be less than 0.25% of the yield received on the deposit. Distributing new issues or products When Gilts acts as the distributor of new issues and fixed income products originated by third parties, Gilt will receive a commission from the originator. In these instances, the commission payable differs with each issue. The level of commission will be disclosed in the PDS for the issue and is likely to be in the range of 0.25% to 1.50% of the amount invested. Representatives Gilts does not remunerate its representatives upon individual transactions by Gilts’ clients. Rather, Gilts remunerates its representatives by a salary, plus a monthly bonus of the net revenue generated by that person during that month if certain key performance indicators are reached. An annual bonus may also be paid if other key performance indicators are reached. The remuneration to Gilts representatives will be paid from (and therefore be less than) the margins or commission paid to Gilts set out above. Benefits for those who refer clients to Gilts Gilts may pay a commission or other benefit to an external party who referred you to Gilts or to someone nominated by the external, if you enter into a transaction. That commission or other benefit will not be a fixed amount or based upon a set formula but will be paid from (and therefore be less than) the margins or commission paid to Gilts set out above and recorded in the contract note or trade confirmation. Making a complaint Gilts’ goal is client satisfaction and it has established procedures that aim to deal with and resolve disputes, including membership of an ASIC approved independent dispute resolution centre.
