How HIV can be
transmitted
There are FOUR ways to become infected with HIV from an HIV+ person!
Here’s how to avoid HIV infection:
“Who should get tested?”
Everyone! Knowledge is power!
“Why should I get tested?”
It’stheonlywaytoknowifyouhaveHIV
“But I’m a little afraid!”
Ifyoutestnegative,youwillgeteducated
on how to stay HIV negative.
If you test positive, you can begin treat-
ment to feel better and live a long life!
There is no cure for HIV/AIDS, but modern
medicine makes it possible for people who
are infected to live long and happy lives.
Getting tested is the ONLY way to be sure
if one needs treatment. Going to a clinic is
safe and confidential.

from Girls
1. From Blood:
• Avoid blood contact
• Don’t touch open wounds on others
• Do not share a needle with anyone
2. From Sexual Fluids of Boys
3. From Sexual Fluids of Girls
To avoid transfer from sexual activity:
• You can abstain from sex.
• Remain faithful to one partner.
• Use a new condom every single time.
4. From Mother to Child
Here are the steps to avoid transfer:
I. If a woman is pregnant, she should
get tested for HIV right away.
II. If she is HIV positive, she should
receive medicine (known as antiret-
rovirals) to keep from transmitting to
the baby!
III. She should give birth at a clinic - a
doctor can help make sure she has a
safe delivery!
IV. An HIV+ woman should then follow
doctor’s instructions for
breast-feeding.

Both Girls and Boys are talented!
Both Girls and Boys are strong!
Both Girls’ and Boys’ opinions matter!
Both Girls and Boys deserve respect!
Girls and Boys can achieve their dreams!
GIRLS&
We all can be LEADERS!
Boys and Girls should NEVER hurt
each other and should respect
physical boundaries!
Boys who respect
girls grow up to be
STRONG MEN!
I HEARD you can get HIV from
deep kissing!
That is NOT TRUE! There is
not enough HIV in saliva alone to
transmit the virus.
But if you have a sore, wound are
bleeding in the mouth,
kissing is not safe.
I HEARD that HIV can live on a
table, a fork, or a plate.
NO WAY! HIV does not live on
things at all. You can share a
nice meal with an infected
person without worry.
I HEARD that AIDS can be in clothes and towels.
NOT AT ALL! HIV only lives in blood and male and fe-
male sexual fluids. It can also be transmitted to babies
during birth and breast-feeding. BUT THAT’S ALL!
I HEARD you can get AIDS from mosquitoes.
Malaria comes from mosquitoes. Not HIV or AIDS!
I HEARD that playing games, swimming, and hugging is very risky.
No, sir, those are ZERO RISK activities. We should play and
have fun with all of our friends and families and neighbors -
even those who are living with HIV!
