VSATlive OB Unit
- 1. Freelance Lighting cameraman with hostile environment experience with
KA SAT Newsspotter OB Truck
I am a freelance lighting - cameraman with hostile environment experience and have
worked in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Iraq circa 2002 -2004 for MEBC, Fox News etc.
RONSAT is my VW Transporter OB unit which is based in SE England close to the
channel ports capable of IP streaming via LiveU, Quicklink and MobileViewpoint
Close proximity to London and Europe
Euro tunnel and the cross channel ferries are literally a ten-minute drive away, making it
possible to cover major stories in London and the European mainland with relative
ease.
We use 4G combined with KA SAT Newsspotter for extra resilience which means we
can go live from virtually anywhere, however remote within Europe, with or without the
4G network.
Mains powered / Generator powered.
The unit is self-contained and can run off a mains supply or its own internal generator. A
pleasure battery is used to run auxiliary equipment such as modems and 4G cell phone.
Communications / IFB.
The vehicle uses VOIP or the cellular network for IFB which can be fed via radio to the
presenter. Where ever the vehicle is in the world it can be contacted by dialling a UK
landline.
Internet Access.
We provide reliable access to the internet, even on the move. Should one network fail
another takes over.
Self seeking off-Air satellite monitoring.
Off-air monitoring is available for ail free to air satellite television stations on board the
vehicle.
HD-SDI / Fibre Connections.
The vehicle is able to take in multiple sources and switch synchronously between them.
Wireless video connections.
This particular vehicle has a Teradek Beam transmitter which will operate over 500
meters within line of site of the vehicle. This is adequate for situations where you need
to get to the other side of the road without laying cables .
For situations requiring a robust wireless link e.g. a walk through a building, we
recommend using our Cobham which will enable the cameraman to roam within a
walled building without any loss of signal. (The Cobham is normally based at our
Midlands HQ near Grantham and is bookable only in advance).
Beverages:
Complimentary tea or coffee is provided on board.
First Aid
The unit is equipped with a major trauma kit.
"One hour later we landed in Kabul. Ron Kennedy, a freelance cameraman was waiting,
complete with equipment and ready to work..... All I had was blind faith an ambition to
compete with other channels and a cameraman I could trust"
