PXT Select and the Employee Experience
1. Oliver’s career and its’ intersect with the PXT Select™.
During Oliver’s job application he was invited to take the PXT Select one-hour assessment, and
the experience proved to be an enjoyable one. He could return multiple times and complete
the assessment at his pace and the questions were thought provoking, intuitive and logical.
Oliver was unaware that the employer used the PXT Select™ Assessment which uses the latest
Computer Adaptive Testing technology. An algorithm produces questions that are germane to
the previous answer creating an assessment tailored to Oliver’s responses.
Apart from an engaging experience it was also a highly informative one. Oliver received his
Individual’s Feedback Report, revealing an unbeknownst awareness of situations, settings, and
circumstances which appealed to his working style something he was oblivious to, while also
identifying those seemingly innocuous unmindful work situations that could become stressful
and unrewarding for him over time. Those small things that by themselves don’t seem
important but if frequent they could spell stress ahead.
What Oliver didn’t know was that his hiring manager received a Multiple Candidates Report
stack ranking Oliver’s assessment score with those of other candidates earning him an
interview. Best practice guidelines suggest assessment results account for no more than a third
of the decision tree along-side a candidate’s resume and interview, so while Oliver’s score
wasn’t the best, it was acceptable and it kept him on the short list.
2. The hiring manager used the PXT Select’s Comprehensive Selection Report’s personalized
behavioral questions as a cornerstone for Oliver’s interview saving interview time trying to
discover challenge areas. The report compares Oliver’s assessment results to the performance
model taken from the Performance Model Library which had been further customized to
punctuate key job requirements. Once hired the PXT Select would continue to intersect with
Oliver’s career as events played out below.
One-on-One Leadership
It can’t be over emphasized how important and beneficial it is for organizations to have good
managers – or how detrimental bad managers can be. According to Gallup Studies the Manager
is the lynch-pin that drives success in nearly every dimension of business, from diversity and
inclusion to productivity, engagement and retention. The number one reason employees leave
or underperform is because they have poor relationships with their managers. The two most
pressing concerns a new employee has is seeing eye to eye with their manager and fitting in
with their teammates.
The manager/employee relationship is one of the most critical relationships in business and it’s
one of the most fragile. The PXT Select is designed specifically as a multipurpose, ubiquitous
tool thanks to the Profiles Assessment Center™ to help managers develop and sustain trusting
and productive partnerships with their employees throughout their career with the company
regardless of organizational change and promotions.
The Coaching Report
The old school approach to employee coaching is based on the premise of how to get the most
out of an employee. How can I get the employee to do more and deliver more, work harder,
faster and more efficiently? A carry over from the industrial age. The PXT Select’s coaching
approach is to help managers bring out the best in each employee. No two employees are the
same which is why employers need the PXT Select. How can I help Oliver become more
engaged, creative, and inspired? When Oliver’s new manager is provided with useful tips to aid
in his development based on having a deeper understanding of his Thinking and Problem-
Solving Style, Behavioral Traits, and Interests in relation to his position; along with insights into
his motivations and challenge areas a trusting manager/employee partnership can be forged
from day one.
The Manager-Employee Report
The old school aphorism “It’s my way or the highway” is the stereotypical profile of the
manager/employee relationship. The PXT Select’s Manager-Employee Report is the antithesis
to this portrayal. This report is designed to provide the manager with information concerning
3. their compatibility as a manager with their employee. Knowing more about your similarities
and differences will foster a better understanding of how you as Oliver’s manager can work
together to realize the highest potential for both of you.
The Team Report
The best definition of teamwork in business involves a group of individuals working together to
complete a task or a large goal. A leader's role in developing and managing the team is critical
to team success. The PXT Select Team Report provides the team manager and team members
with valuable information about how the team leader and members of the team can work
together to achieve team-oriented objectives and overall organizational goals. Most importantly,
it is intended to provide each team member and the team leader with a deeper understanding of
one another so everyone can work together more effectively. Oliver can view his Team Report
to gain insight into his place on the team’s behavioral profile.
The Multiple Positions Report
Have you ever experienced the 'career pigeonhole'? If you've never heard of the term used in
the context of your professional endeavors, it means that you find yourself performing the exact
same tasks day in and day out with no options other than to endure or quit. Perhaps that is why
7 out of 10 employees in a Gallup Survey were disengaged with their work. The Multiple
Positions Report provides Oliver’s manager with a comparison of Oliver’s assessment results to
more than one position. It is intended to help Oliver’s manager understand what other positions
could be a good fit for Oliver within the organization, notwithstanding Oliver’s education,
training, or experience. This report aids in succession, career, and development planning.
The Sales Comprehensive Selection Report
Have you ever wondered if you would be good at selling? A career in sales is worth exploring if
you're looking for a flexible work environment, high earning potential, a way to challenge
yourself, and continuously develop your skills and grow your professional capabilities. Oliver
and his manager at some point in time may want to explore this option by requesting Oliver’s
Sales Comprehensive Selection Report. Without taking another assessment Oliver’s manager
can apply his PXT Select results to the Sales Performance Model for this position. Oliver’s
personalized information will be compared to the Sales Performance Model, giving his manager
and Oliver a detailed understanding of how well-suited he may be for the sales role. The section
“Critical Sales Practices” describes eight successful sales practices and their underpinning
behaviors and Oliver’s alignment with these practices which are: Prospecting – Initiating Contact
– Building and Maintaining Relationships – Self Starting – Resourcefulness – Coachability –
Working with a Team – Closing the Sale.
Sales Coaching Report
Sales coaching is important for many reasons. First, it helps reps continuously improve their
performance through feedback, practice and repetition. Next, it helps sales managers
improve sales processes, training techniques and pinpoint progress and areas of improvement
for their teams. The sales coaching report is intended to give the sales manager a deeper
understanding of Oliver’s aptitudes, interests and motivations and challenge areas providing
useful tips to aid in his training and development.
4. Leadership Report
One of the great challenges of identifying leaders with the potential for success is looking
beyond the sum of their job experience to truly understand the approach they’ll bring to guiding
their teams and shaping their organizations. This report is designed to shed light on Oliver’s
leadership potential and provide insight into how he might confront the complexities of a
leadership role as seen through the lens of six essential leadership capabilities described and
graphed in Oliver’s Leadership Report. The information within this report gives you unique
insights into the approach Oliver naturally brings to different leadership capabilities. Rather than
giving a yes-or-no answer to the question, “can this person lead?” it instead seeks to answer,
“how will this person lead?” The report can be used in hiring, or developing individuals for
leadership roles, either on its own or together with other reports in the PXT Select™ suite. You
can use your expertise – and your knowledge of Oliver and the organization – to evaluate which
information is most relevant, and how to use it.
