GAME MECHANICS
The core gameplay mechanics of Red Planet: Exploration is Match3. Each game phase is themed to a
different stage of the work that goes into a successful Mars expedition, beginning with pre-
expedition research on Earth and concluding with explanatory research on the surface of Mars.
METAGAME
The metagame revolves around completing all phases of the
Mars journey. These include:
Pre-expedition research;
Construction of expedition rocket, modules, robots, and
other equipment;
Beginning of the mission, including rocket installation and
liftoff;
Mars research base construction;
Scientific research on Mars.
Each phase contains number of levels, each of which must be played several times.
Every phase has a unique set of goals, which range widely from research, to construction of
buildings, to launching a rocket. In order to complete these goals, a player must gather a necessary
amount of in-game currency and other materials
The game will feature educational content in the form of encyclopedic materials that can be
accessed every five levels. These materials will contain information about preparation that went
into a real recent NASA Mars mission. They will likely include interesting factoids as well as
excerpts from interviews with famous people who worked on the mission. At various points
throughout the game, the player will encounter quizzes about the encyclopedia content. Correctly
answering quiz questions will grant players extra bonuses, including extra lives or boosters that
help with finishing levels.
2. STORYLINE
The player must pass all levels and phases of Mars conquest.
Phase 1: Pre-expedition research.
Phase 2: Construction of important expedition equipment.
Phase 3: Beginning of Mars mission, including lift-off.
Phase 4: Construction of a research base on Mars.
Phase 5: The beginning of research taking place on Mars.

The game will include several monetization schemes:
Buying lives: Every player begins with 5 lives and can purchase extra
ones when he begins to run out.
Purchasing extra moves for use in the core gameplay. A player can
stock up on extra moves at the beginning of a level or can buy them
mid-game as the need arises.
Booster acquisition: As the game progresses, a variety of different
types of boosters become available for the player to capture. The
player can then purchase extra boosters with in-game currency.
Building resources: A player can also purchase resources necessary
for constructing research and space travel equipment more quickly.

resources, and invitations through Facebook and The Game Centre,
the game carries the potential to become viral.
