Introduction
 Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy
efficiency.
insulating a home allows a building to use less heating and
cooling energy to achieve and maintain a comfortable
temperature.
Reducing energy use reduces energy costs and may result
in a financial cost saving to consumers if the energy
savings.
Why Go Green
Climate change
first and foremost conclusive research shows that co2
and other emission are causing global climate and
environment damage.
 Saving
Green computing can lead to serious cost saving
overtime reductions in energy costs from servers,
cooling and lighting are generating in serious saving
for more corporations.
Why Go Green
Reliability of power
As energy demands in the world go up energy supply
is declining or flat. energy efficient system help ensure
healthy power system.
Computing
Computing power consumption has reached a critical
point data center have run out of usable power and
cooling due high densities.
method
Appliances :-
various appliances including refrigrator air conditions
microwave etc.must be energy star certified as they use
less power than noncertified products.
Fluorescent Lamps:-
energy efficient fluorescent lamps that contain the
lowest amount of mercury content motion detectors to
light rooms only when only when people are present
and use of timers for others lights can be considered.
Rechargeable Batteries:-
nickel metal hydride (NIMH)and lithium recharge
batteries are preferable to nickel cadmium (Ni-Cad)
batteries because they are less toxic and can be more
easily recharged without losing their power.
Data Center
In a typical data center with a moderately efficient
cooling system, IT equipment loads can account for
over half of the entire facility’s energy use.
Use of efficient IT equipment will significantly reduce
these loads within the data center, which consequently
will downsize the equipment needed to cool them.
virtualization
 Computer Virtualization is the process of running two
or more logical computer system on one set of physical
hardware.
power management
ACPI allows an operating system to directly controld the
power saving aspect of its underlying hardware. power
management for computer system are desired for many
reasons particularly.
 prolong battery life for portable and embedded
system.
 reduce cooling requirements.
 reduce noise.
 reduce operating costs for energy and cooling
power suply
climate savers computing initiative promotes energy
saving and reduction of green house as emissions by
encouraging development and of mare efficient power
supplies.
Advantages
energy saving
environmentally friendly
cost effective(pays over time)
save more money per year
Disadvantages
high start up cost
not readily available
still in experiment stages
sacrifies performance for battery life
conclusion
so far consumers haven't cared about ecological impact
when buying computers they ‘ve cared only about speed
and price.
new green materials are developed every year and many
toxic ones are already being replace by them
the greenest computer will not miraculously fall from the
sky one day it will be the product of year of improvements.
the features of a green of computer of tomorrow would be
like: efficient, manufacturing and materials recyclability,
server model, self powering and other trends.
