3. Origin
● The Valley was called as the Nagarkot in the ancient times, as it was the
ancient capital of the powerful hill state fort of Nagarkot.

● The town was attacked by the Mohammad Ghaznavi and was conquered by
Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

4. Kangra District
● Kangra was the largest district of composite Punjab in terms of area till it
was transferred to Himachal Pradesh on 1st of November, 1966.
● The administrative headquarters of the district were initially at Kangra, but
were moved to Dharamsala in 1855.
● It had six tehsils namely Nurpur, Kangra, Palampur, Dera Gopipur and
Hamirpur.
● Kangra district has the highest number of 3,869 villages among the 12
district of the state.

● Kangra's climate is classified as warm and temperate.
● During Summer Season i.e. March to June,temperature in kangra varies
between 22 degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius.
● For Trekking Summer Season is the best time to visit.During Monsoon
Season Three months under comes July, August and September.
● Kangra Valley gets garlended with lush and fresh greenery in the monsoon,it
does get messed up because of the heavy rainfall.
● Winter Season start from December till February.Sometimes, temperature
descends to 4 degree celsius. Snowfall can also seen in the high areas.

By Road:
The valley is reached by roads from other parts of Himachal Pradesh.
By Railway:
Kangra Valley Railways is a 164 km long narrow gauge railway line that connects
the valley with Pathankot, the nearest railhead on broad gauge railway network.
By Air:
Gaggal Airport,alternatively known as Kangra Airport or
Dharamshala-Kangra Airport located in Gaggal near Kangra
City around 14 km far away.
