Established in 1981, McAlpine Grant Ilco is a dynamic company that has
become well-known for providing the best in professional consultancy, design,
installation and project management services to assist customers with
temperature control in their many diverse environments.
This comprises providing cooling and air-conditioning
services, refrigeration, freezers, cold rooms and heating
solutions for businesses, public and charity organisations
alike. Clients include BMW (UK Manufacturing) Plant
Oxford, DKNY, Greene King, Cancer Research, Oxford
Radcliffe Hospitals Trust, Louis Vuitton and KFC & Burger

At MGI, we help customers design and install new systems in new sites as well
as offering a temperature control rethink in existing locations. In addition, we
also expand or modernise current facilities where required.

We recognise that in office and factory location, keeping the
environment continuously comfortable (not too hot or too cool)
has far-reaching benefits. These include lessened employee
stress and more contented customers and staff. It can also
lead to enhanced productivity, improved services and in some

With refrigeration, cold room and freezer solutions, temperature control is often
mission-critical (e.g. with food storage, the housing of technological equipment
or the preservation of medical samples). As a result, we ensure security
measures and alert systems are ‘built-in’ to our solutions
to keep temperatures consistent at all times so that stock
or equipment is not damaged or lost.
Once installation is complete, many of our clients take
advantage of our excellent preventative maintenance and
aftercare services to ensure optimal longevity and return

1. Air-Conditioning and Comfort Cooling
MGI design and install air-conditioning systems and
comfort cooling for all types of environment, including:

As with all of our services, we undertake a thorough on-site consultation prior
to our designers creating a bespoke solution to suit your business needs. We
provide completely new air-conditioning systems as well as simple additions
to your current temperature control facilities.
2. Refrigeration, Cold Rooms and Freezers
At MGI, we provide a wide variety of refrigeration
solutions including cold rooms, walk-in refrigerators and
freezer rooms and appreciate how important each detail
is to our clients.
This is particularly true in mission critical environments,
such as hospitals, clinics, laboratories and food storage
facilities where failures can have far-reaching
consequences. We ensure your cold room or freezer has added-security
measures where required such as:

3. Heating Solutions
MGI provides a variety of new and modified heating
solutions for a wide range of customers, within
manufacturing sites, modern offices and historic
buildings.
Our tailored solutions are based entirely on your
specifications, following a visit to your premises by
one of our experienced designers. Moreover, we can combine heating and
air-conditioning in one energy efficient package to save you money, and help
you keep your working environment in control.
4. Planned, Preventative Maintenance
MGI provides tailored maintenance services to over
1,500 locations across the UK, looking after a variety of
air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems.
What’s more our 24-hour helpdesk is available to clients
seven days a week as a central coordination point and a
first contact during an emergency.
Designed around individual requirements, our clients feel safe in the
knowledge that we will be there when we say we will, and using specialist
software we track every aspect of the job through to completion. We offer a
scheduled service where we commit to a programme of agreed maintenance
throughout the year and a rapid-response service, available 24/7, for those
unforeseen issues.
5. F Gas Regulations – (EC) 842/2006 (F-Gas)
F gases (fluorinated greenhouse gases) are commonly found in refrigeration,
air conditioning and heat pump systems. There are new EC Regulations
relating to equipment containing F Gases from the 4th July 2007. The
legislation is aimed at limiting the release of F Gases through regular and
recorded leak checking and equipment maintenance by certified personnel.
MGI has fully certified engineers that can provide a bespoke and
comprehensive maintenance service to ensure total compliance for our
clients to the new regulations. Our staff will design a fully compliant leak
detection and maintenance programme suited to the size and number of your
plant.

McAlpine Grant Ilco is committed to Total Quality
Management, assisted by a Quality Manager to
continually improve standards of quality throughout the
company’s business processes. This includes provision
of McAlpine Grant Ilco’s Quality Procedures Manual at all
sites on which staff employed by McAlpine Grant Ilco are
working. This document is available for inspection at any

9. Accreditations & Associations
As part of MGi’s commitment to customer services, quality and safe working, we
belong to a number of important associations. These are outlined below:
Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly HVCA)
McAlpine Grant Ilco is a full member of B&ES which
represents the interests of firms active in the design,
installation, commissioning and maintenance of heating,
ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration products and
equipment. Our membership number is:
F487900/HV007105.
As a B&ES member, MGI is required to adhere to the Association's Code of
Fair Trading and to commit to best practice in all our commercial dealings. We
are also subject to regular, third-party inspections and assessments by BM
TRADA (a recognised certification body with a track record in the construction
industry) to ensure both MGI’s commercial and technical competence.
The commercial capability assessment covers administrative and business
systems, financial and training records, insurance arrangements, health and
safety, environmental and equal opportunities policies.
The technical assessment takes place on-site and involves the inspection of
work in progress against a broad range of standards, devised and compiled by
B&ES in collaboration with BSRIA.
Standard Maintenance Specifications for Services in Buildings (SMG2000)
Prior to 1990, there had been no standard document covering the maintenance
of heating, cooling and ventilation plant in buildings. However, as equipment
became more reliable, a tendency to relax the maintenance of plant emerged
causing customer dissatisfaction and energy wastage.
As a result, the HVCA (now B&ES) in association with the Chartered Institute of
Building Engineers (CIBSE), the Building Research Energy Conservation
Support Unit (BRECSU) and the Department of Energy developed the
‘Standard Maintenance Specification’ which aimed at maintenance contractors,
provided a contractual standard against which to evaluate and enforce
adequate maintenance standards.
As a B&ES member, McAlpine Grant Ilco has adopted SMG2000 as a
mandatory standard for both tendering and carrying out maintenance work. This
standard covers proprietary HVAC equipment, encompassing maintenance
activities, safety, working with electrical equipment, record keeping, energy
efficiency and emissions.

Environmental Agency
McAlpine Grant Ilco has been issued a Waste Management
Licence (Licence number: TWE 675222253) by the
Environmental Agency for the safe carrying of waste and
reclaimed refrigerant. Waste management licences authorise the
treatment, keeping or disposal of controlled waste and ensure
that waste management facilities: do not pollute the environment,
do not harm human health and do not seriously detriment local
amenities.
In addition to these objectives, waste management facilities must also be
prepared, developed, operated, restored and completed to high standards. The
Environment Agency imposes comprehensive, enforceable and clear licence
conditions to help them meet these objectives.
The legislative basis for waste management licensing is provided in Part II of
the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and associated regulations.
BESCA
McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is an accredited and
checked member of BESCA (Building Engineering
Services Competence Accreditation Ltd).
Where works represent a material change to controlled services, they are
required to be compliant with and notified under the Part L of the Building
Regulations. McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is a member of the Competent Persons
Scheme (England & Wales) operated by BESCA, and can, if required, register
their works (once completed) with the relevant local authority and issue a
Compliance Certificate as documentary proof that the installation meets the
Building Regulations. Failure to comply with the requirement to advise Local
Authority Building Control of notifiable works could result in prosecution under
The Building Act.

10. Health & Safety Overview
Health and Safety Policy
McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd conforms to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974,
the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 and other
relevant legislation. It is our policy to provide, maintain and seek to improve
standards of health and safety. Operation practices, which safeguard all
employees and result in safe working conditions and efficient operation, must
be followed. McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd also assumes obligations in relation to the
Health and Safety of members of the public and sub-contractors of various
kinds who may require access to working environments under our control.

McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is accredited within the Contractors
Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) having
demonstrated and with sound management of current basic

Health and Safety Procedures
McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd ensures that all staff are aware of their responsibilities
while at work. All policies and procedures apply on customer sites as well as
McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd’s own premises. On customer sites, the senior team
member, will have overall responsibility for enforcing Health and Safety on that
site and site specific Health and Safety procedures will be issued to all team
members. General points include that all staff have a responsibility:
To take reasonable care of their own and others’ health and safety in their
immediate work environment, including ensuring they are wearing the
correct protective clothing and that they conduct themselves in a safe
manner, leaving their work area neat and tidy.
To co-operate with all parties so that they may comply with their obligations
under the Health and Safety at Work Act/Regulations, familiarising
themselves with the location of the Health and Safety notice board and of
the building in which they are working.
Not to interfere with or misuse any equipment or materials provided in the
interest of health, safety or welfare either intentionally or recklessly.
To bring to the attention of their Manager, any concerns or complaints they
have concerning health and safety matters, reporting faulty equipment, and
incorrect signage.
To ensure that they do not undertake any duties on their own for which they
have not been fully trained.
Safety audits are regularly carried out on sites to ensure that all regulations are
complied with.

The marketplace in which McAlpine Grant Ilco operates is fast evolving, both in
terms of customer expectations and technology. We have
carefully selected our strategic business partners and
ensure that our key personnel (designers and engineers)
gain recognised status with them. Knowledge is updated
on a continuous basis, through seminars and training
courses, so as to provide our clients with a consistently

With most MGI engineers working on client sites, either permanently or
temporarily, communications are of paramount importance. As a result, we use
technology in every way possible to facilitate easy communications between all

This comprises providing cooling and air-conditioning services, refrigeration, freezers, cold rooms and heating solutions for businesses, public and charity organisations alike. Clients include BMW (UK Manufacturing) Plant Oxford, DKNY, Greene King, Cancer Research, Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust, Louis Vuitton and KFC & Burger King franchised outlets. At MGI, we help customers design and install new systems in new sites as well as offering a temperature control rethink in existing locations. In addition, we also expand or modernise current facilities where required. Keep in Control with MGI We recognise that in office and factory location, keeping the environment continuously comfortable (not too hot or too cool) has far-reaching benefits. These include lessened employee stress and more contented customers and staff. Heating Solutions MGI provides a variety of new and modified heating solutions for a wide range of customers, within manufacturing sites, modern offices and historic buildings. Our tailored solutions are based entirely on your specifications, following a visit to your premises by one of our experienced designers. Moreover, we can combine heating and air-conditioning in one energy efficient package to save you money, and help you keep your working environment in control. 4. Planned, Preventative Maintenance MGI provides tailored maintenance services to over 1,500 locations across the UK, looking after a variety of air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems. What’s more our 24-hour helpdesk is available to clients seven days a week as a central coordination point and a first contact during an emergency. Designed around individual requirements, our clients feel safe in the knowledge that we will be there when we say we will, and using specialist software we track every aspect of the job through to completion. We offer a scheduled service where we commit to a programme of agreed maintenance throughout the year and a rapid-response service, available 24/7, for those unforeseen issues. 5. F Gas Regulations – (EC) 842/2006 (F-Gas) F gases (fluorinated greenhouse gases) are commonly found in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems. There are new EC Regulations relating to equipment containing F Gases from the 4th July 2007. The legislation is aimed at limiting the release of F Gases through regular and recorded leak checking and equipment maintenance by certified personnel. MGI has fully certified engineers that can provide a bespoke and comprehensive maintenance service to ensure total compliance for our clients to the new regulations. Our staff will design a fully compliant leak detection and maintenance programme suited to the size and number of your plant.

Accreditations & Associations As part of MGi’s commitment to customer services, quality and safe working, we belong to a number of important associations. These are outlined below: Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly HVCA) McAlpine Grant Ilco is a full member of B&ES which represents the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration products and equipment. Our membership number is: F487900/HV007105. As a B&ES member, MGI is required to adhere to the Association's Code of Fair Trading and to commit to best practice in all our commercial dealings. We are also subject to regular, third-party inspections and assessments by BM TRADA (a recognised certification body with a track record in the construction industry) to ensure both MGI’s commercial and technical competence. The commercial capability assessment covers administrative and business systems, financial and training records, insurance arrangements, health and safety, environmental and equal opportunities policies. The technical assessment takes place on-site and involves the inspection of work in progress against a broad range of standards, devised and compiled by B&ES in collaboration with BSRIA. Standard Maintenance Specifications for Services in Buildings (SMG2000) Prior to 1990, there had been no standard document covering the maintenance of heating, cooling and ventilation plant in buildings. However, as equipment became more reliable, a tendency to relax the maintenance of plant emerged causing customer dissatisfaction and energy wastage. As a result, the HVCA (now B&ES) in association with the Chartered Institute of Building Engineers (CIBSE), the Building Research Energy Conservation Support Unit (BRECSU) and the Department of Energy developed the ‘Standard Maintenance Specification’ which aimed at maintenance contractors, provided a contractual standard against which to evaluate and enforce adequate maintenance standards. As a B&ES member, McAlpine Grant Ilco has adopted SMG2000 as a mandatory standard for both tendering and carrying out maintenance work. This standard covers proprietary HVAC equipment, encompassing maintenance activities, safety, working with electrical equipment, record keeping, energy efficiency and emissions.

Waste management licences authorise the treatment, keeping or disposal of controlled waste and ensure that waste management facilities: do not pollute the environment, do not harm human health and do not seriously detriment local amenities. In addition to these objectives, waste management facilities must also be prepared, developed, operated, restored and completed to high standards. The Environment Agency imposes comprehensive, enforceable and clear licence conditions to help them meet these objectives. The legislative basis for waste management licensing is provided in Part II of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and associated regulations. BESCA McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is an accredited and checked member of BESCA (Building Engineering Services Competence Accreditation Ltd). Where works represent a material change to controlled services, they are required to be compliant with and notified under the Part L of the Building Regulations. McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is a member of the Competent Persons Scheme (England & Wales) operated by BESCA, and can, if required, register their works (once completed) with the relevant local authority and issue a Compliance Certificate as documentary proof that the installation meets the Building Regulations. Failure to comply with the requirement to advise Local Authority Building Control of notifiable works could result in prosecution under The Building Act.

All policies and procedures apply on customer sites as well as McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd’s own premises. On customer sites, the senior team member, will have overall responsibility for enforcing Health and Safety on that site and site specific Health and Safety procedures will be issued to all team members. General points include that all staff have a responsibility: To take reasonable care of their own and others’ health and safety in their immediate work environment, including ensuring they are wearing the correct protective clothing and that they conduct themselves in a safe manner, leaving their work area neat and tidy. To co-operate with all parties so that they may comply with their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act/Regulations, familiarising themselves with the location of the Health and Safety notice board and of the building in which they are working. Not to interfere with or misuse any equipment or materials provided in the interest of health, safety or welfare either intentionally or recklessly. To bring to the attention of their Manager, any concerns or complaints they have concerning health and safety matters, reporting faulty equipment, and incorrect signage. To ensure that they do not undertake any duties on their own for which they have not been fully trained. Safety audits are regularly carried out on sites to ensure that all regulations are complied with.
