Health Professions Advisor June 2014-Present
Multifaceted position with varied responsibilities
• Advising: Primary advising responsibility was guiding students through the pre-professional health program.
Duties include course selection, performance assessment, provide advice and related to choosing professional
schools, and exploring of alternate career options. Also sponsored pre-professional student organizations
including the Pre-Optometry Society and Pre-Physical Therapy Society.
• Instruction: Taught two courses designed to address the needs of freshman and junior pre-health students.
o AS 101: Pre-Health Freshman Compass Course, Co-Instructor. Duties include designing course
curriculum (presentations, activities, and exercises) to help students acclimate to the university and
college life, strengthen study and time management skills, and explore career options in the health
professions.
o AS 299: Junior Health Professions Seminar. Duties include designing presentations, scheduling guest
speakers, and providing resources to juniors applying to medical, dental, and optometry schools. Also
provided feedback on student self-assessments and assisted in the writing and editing of personal
statements. Topics presented in the course included assessing competitiveness for professional school,
preparing for examinations (MCAT, DAT, OAT), and navigating the web-based application services
(AMCAS, AACOMAS, AADSAS, TMDSAS).
• Interviewing: Chaired committee interviews designed to assess the degree to which students fulfill the
competencies necessary for admittance into professional school.
• Letter Writing: Composed 47 letters of evaluation for each student interviewed during the 2016 application
cycle.
• Assessment Team: Duties included analyzing departmental policies and processes in need of improvement. I
developed questionnaires using Qualtrics, a web-based surveying program, designed to obtain information and
feedback from staff on advising policies and processes.
• Recruitment: Lead Health Professions recruitment events that provide information to prospective students,
parents and community members regarding programs offered at the university, with emphasis on those related
to the health professions. Duties include leading presentations during prospective student visits to campus and
attend college fairs at local community colleges and regional venues.

Designed and implemented Blackboard course that housed student application materials for the 2016 Professional
School Application Cycle. The course helped to streamline the processing of application materials for committee

o Safe Zone: Safe Zone training educates faculty and staff at the university on issues affecting the
LGBTQ student population and provides information regarding resources available to those students.
o Safe Zone Trainer: Completed training to become a Safe Zone trainer.
o Lavender Graduation: Created a slide-show presentation for students participating in the university’s
Lavender Graduation ceremony which takes place prior to the general graduation ceremony and
celebrates the accomplishments of LGBTQ students.
