2. India’s Darkest Period of June 25, 1975
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally
declared a state of emergency in India.
This adversely affected India’s Press and the
Constitution.
3. Industry Minister George Fernandes,
in 1978 gave a speech at luncheon
meeting at industry chamber FICCI
told to break the law and produce
more than what their licenses
allowed.
This was the first time that Indian
Industry had publicly raised its voice
to seek freedom from the controls of
a closed economy.
4. Dec 14, 1983 ; witnessed the introduction of
cars in India with the rolling out of First
Maruti 800; a 796 cc hatchback.
Suzuki motor’s President Osamu Suzuki
rolled out there first model that very year.
5. In 1991, when Finance Minister,
Manmohan Singh presented the
union budget, then India saw a revamp
of the fiscal policy.
This hailed for heralding economic
reforms in India.
6. Ratan Tata was made the chairman of the
Tata Sons in Jan.1992.
Under his leadership Tata reached the
pinnacle of success.
After illustrious 20 years the baton was
passed over to Cyrus Mistry, but Mr. Tata
continues to be the emeritus chairman.
7. Sunil Mittal launched Bharti Cellular’s
Mobile Services under the Brand
Airtel,in Delhi in 1995.
This evolved a mobile communication
network of India.
8. This dream budget was prepared by Finance
Minister, P. Chidambaram.
Reduced the rate for personal income tax
from 40% to 30%.
Cap on Foreign institutional investments
were raised.
Lowered corporation tax rates by removing
surcharge and cutting royalty rates.
9. The Tata’s took over Jaguar , which was
an epic deal in Mumbai in 2008.
The Jaguar -Landrover deal was the
biggest deal which changed the auto-
industry’s view towards consumer
preferences.
10. With a massive
Mandate , Mr.
Narendra Modi, was
elected as the Prime
Minister of India.
This eventually
brought a change in
the Indian
Economy, by several
policies.
