Rina Sherman's 2007 documentary film "KEEP THE DANCE ALIVE" documents rituals and dances of the Ovahimba and related peoples in Namibia and Angola. Sherman spent seven years living with these communities, capturing close-up shots of their dances. By alternating between low-key and dramatic moments, she shows how these practices remain contemporary as they flow through children, adolescents, adults, and elders, touching on the continuity that makes humans unique. The film will be screened at the Cinémathèque française on June 30, 2008, with Sherman in attendance.
