8. Aesthetics
Designer doorset solutions are available
in a huge range of finish options to deliver
a distinctive appearance and aesthetic
appeal.
Performance
Delivering certified performance for:
• Acoustic - Sound reduction up to
46RwdB
• Fire - Fire resistance up to FD120
• Radiation shielding - Radiation
performance up to code 7
• Security - High security up to ‘delayed
entry level 3’
Anti-bacterial
A biocidally proactive additive is integral to
our lacquer finishes and our Hygieniform
PVCs, providing protection against harmful
bacteria such as E.coli, Salmonella and
MRSA. It works by preventing the bacteria
access to nutrients so that they starve and
die. It does not employ silver technology,
rendering it completely UV stable and
remains effective for years because of its
inherently low water solubility.
• 99.9 percent kill rate over a 24 hour
period
• non-carcinogenic
• non-mutagenic
• non skin sensitising
• UV stable
• independently tested and verified
Pivette
The sliding, folding mechanics of Pivette
make it a versatile solution where
functionality, access and space are
important considerations. The unique
two-leaf articulated door minimises door
swing area whilst maximising clear opening
widths.
Pivette offers a solution to a wide range of
design problems presented by Part M of the
Approved Documents and BS8300:2001.
• Uses only one third of a conventional
door swing area
• Maximises opening area for optimum
accessibility
• Straightforward to install and easy to
operate
• Outward opening WC doors,
substantially reducing the corridor
width
• Doors opening onto landings, leaving
access space to comply with Part K
• Lobbies with space required for
wheelchair access between doorways
• Sanitary accommodation doors
opening outwards onto circulation
space
• Emergency release option
Finger protection
Sentinel and Safehinge are innovative
hand and finger protection solutions
that allow specifiers and architects to
achieve outstanding performance without
compromising design or architectural
integrity. As an integral part of the doorset,
the timber (Sentinel) or aluminium
(Safehinge) profile brings the following key
advantages:
• Prevents the crushing and shearing of
fingers (adults and children)
• An integral robust solution to reduce
the potential for misuse or vandalism
and ensure long-term reliability
• Fully complies with Approved
Documents and can be incorporated
into all design applications
• Achieves 30 RwdB making it ideal for
classroom entrance doorsets
• Cannot be forcibly removed, negating
the cost of ongoing replacement
• Offers wide choice of design aesthetics
to the specifier/designer
• Modern design and smooth line profile
is ideal for design-led environments
• Provides creative freedom and
flexibility for specifiers and designers

Glazing
Glazing has a major impact on fire
performance and limitations are identified
in the Approved Documents. Aperture
shape and position, glazed area, style
of bead and type of glass all influence
fire performance, as well as appearance.
The most commonly used aperture
configurations, all available with fire
certification up to 120 minutes, are shown
in the vision panels section. Bespoke
glazing shapes and sizes also form part of
the Designer range.

impact PVC is available in 15 colours.
This revolutionary PVC contains a highly
effective anti-bacterial additive throughout
the material thickness that protects against
harmful bacteria such as E.coli, Salmonella
and MRSA.

01. A complete package
Combining performance critical and non-
performance critical operating architectural
ironmongery, creates visual compatibility,
enhanced aesthetics and offers the
highest levels of standards compliance.
Performance levels are guaranteed and
the installation process simplified and
speeded up by maximising the benefits
of factory preparation and in some cases
factory fitting of components. Leaderflush
Shapland Laidlaw has put together a range
of architectural ironmongery to provide a
complete integrated doorset package with
each product chosen to meet all technical
requirements.
02. Integrated performance critical
By incorporating all of the performance
critical architectural ironmongery as a
fully engineered unit, the performance of
the doorset can be guaranteed. As part of
the manufacturing process, mortising of
Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw architectural
ironmongery is included at no additional
cost. This factory preparation and, in the
case of non-projecting hardware, fitting of
the ironmongery produces the quality of
finish which simply cannot be achieved
on-site.
03. Doorset and ironmongery package
Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw appreciates
the diversity of our clients’ requirements
and will provide a compliant bid to your
specific enquiry or specification. This
gives you the flexibility to choose your
own doorset and ironmongery package to
suit your particular project needs. Please
note that compatibility checks within this
option are not done and we recommend
upgrading to either option 1 or 2.
04. Add your own
Where a specific aesthetic concept for
a building is required we can mortise for
all architectural ironmongery hardware
against free issue samples (provided that
all recessed ironmongery has rounded
corners) should an alternative range
be selected.

20. The integrated
doorset option.
The Designer doorset
solution can also be
supplied as an integrated
performance doorset. The
integrated performance
doorset solution has
been created so that
all the components –
door leaf, frame and
architectural ironmongery
– work together as a unified
product, meeting certified
performance levels. The
integrated Designer doorset
construction and individual
product components have
been carefully selected and
fully tested to provide a
co-ordinated, fit for purpose,
certified package, offering
comprehensive product
performance and life cycle
resilience.
Certification
Our fire resisting products are
manufactured under the intensive
BWF CERTIFIRE independent third party
and BM TRADA Q Mark certification
schemes. All other performance criteria are
fully certified to recognised performance
standards across the range.
We ensure all the items of architectural
ironmongery installed adhere to our
certification requirements. This avoids
the inadvertent use of non-standard
components, which could undermine
and diminish fire, acoustic or radiation
performance of the completed doorset
installation.
Compliance
Our doorsets are fully compliant with
relevant approved documents (England &
Wales), the technical handbooks (Scotland)
and Technical Booklets (Northern
Ireland) and Department of Health
recommendations.
Improved quality
Attention to detail is an important aspect
of a complete, integrated performance
doorset. The factory preparation and, in the
case of non-projecting hardware, fitting of
the architectural ironmongery produces
the quality of finish which simply cannot be
achieved on-site.
Enhanced aesthetics
We prepare our doorsets for architectural
ironmongery in our factory and supply all
items that make up the doorset, to ensure a
greatly enhanced appearance.
Superior efficiency
The use of factory prepared and installed
architectural ironmongery ensures the
door and its hardware are working at
their most efficient. It is proven that the
majority of maintenance issues are caused
by incorrectly or inaccurately installed
ironmongery.
Single source supplier
The resources and experience of
Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw ensures
trouble free scheduling and delivery of our
integrated solutions from a single source.
More than a door.
21. One St Peters Square, American Black Walnut Veneer,
Unequal Pair with ScreenAn end result which is greater than the sum
of its parts.
Time saving
Reduced work on-site improves site
co-ordination and reduces snagging issues
and remedial work.
•
Superior durability
Superior durability and life cycles are
ensured, while site preparation is virtually
eliminated, increasing the accuracy of
fitting, particularly of critical architectural
ironmongery items such as hinges, lock
cases and concealed door closers. This
reduces stresses placed on the door, frame
and operating hardware.
Cost savings
Savings in site management costs, which
are usually required to oversee the co-
ordination of ‘multi-supplier’ provision, are
achieved.
Guarantee
The integrated performance doorset is
subject to a 10 year guarantee on doorsets,
assuming normal wear and tear. Conditions
and usage must be in accordance with our
recommendations and are subject to our
terms and conditions, which can be found
at: www.leaderflushshapland.co.uk.

Door swing area
Minimised door swing area, maximising
floor space.
Emergency release Pivette
This doorset incorporates a retractable
guide bolt that overrides the standard
mode of action, allowing the door to open
away from an obstruction. The emergency
release Pivette® is ideal for WCs and other
areas where access might otherwise prove
difficult in an emergency, such as a fallen
person obstructing the opening arc.
This system is available for outward
opening doorsets.

03 Dimensioning.
The drawings below set out the terminology for dimensioning doorsets.
The maximum clearance permitted from the top of the finished floor to the underside of
the door leaf is 10mm for 30 and 60 minutes fire resistance and 5mm for 90 and 120
minutes. For smoke control the clearance is 3mm.

Effective clear widths
The clear opening width is measured up
to any projecting door item including
furniture as shown below.
A space of at least 300mm is generally
required next to the leading edge of the
door to enable wheelchair users to reach
and grip the handle, unless the door is
power operated. Door opening furniture
should be operable with one hand
(e.g. lever action).

04 Finishes.
Veneers
There are many timber species suitable
for the production of wood veneers. Any
commercially available wood veneer can
be specified as part of the Designer doorset
solution.
Wood veneers are obtained by slicing or
peeling a log to produce a thin layer of
wood of a selected uniform thickness,
usually 0.6mm. Selected logs are de-
barked and cut through their length into
halves or quarters known as ‘flitches’.
These flitches are steamed for several days
depending on their species before they are
sliced into veneer ‘sheets’. The individual
veneer sheets are the same width as the
flitch, so as cutting proceeds sheets will
change gradually in size. Each sheet, whilst
having the appearance qualities of the flitch
will be of very slightly different appearance
from both preceding and following sheet.
After cutting, the reassembled flitches are
cured and dried. The job of the veneer
matcher, which is highly skilled, is to use
the available raw material to produce
combinations of veneers or ‘lay-ons’ in
accordance with the given appearance
specification. Sheets will then be guillotined
for width and height so that when joined in
the specified style they will produce lay-ons
only slightly larger than the required panel
size. Lay-ons are produced by joining the
veneer sheets edge to edge with adhesive
or tape.
Often lay-ons are individually numbered so
that, for example, the lay-on for a matched
through overpanel face is identified with its
door leaf face at all points in the production
sequence. Unless special requirements
are called for, a reasonable veneer match
between ‘en-suite’ doors will be provided at
our discretion. Our minimum flitch widths
are 94mm for quarter cut lay-ons and
141mm for crown cut lay-ons.
There are many timber species suitable for
the production of decorative wood veneers
– samples can be provided, which are also
useful for control purposes during the
project. The technique of cutting veneers
will substantially affect the appearance of
the end product. Unless specified otherwise,
doors will be supplied with veneer over
lipping using crown cut and book matched
veneers.
The principal methods of veneer cutting are:
Quarter cut
The log is cut along its length to form four
separate flitches. These are then sliced
at 90° to the growth rings to provide
sheets which have a striped or planked
appearance when assembled.
Crown cut
The log is sliced along its length, resulting
in a figured appearance with less vertical
emphasis than quarter cut.
Rotary cut
The log is peeled to give a continuous
veneer, generally used for constructional
plywood. Veneer sheets cannot be matched
except for general colour characteristics
and their appearance is wild and flowery.
Door leaves
33. Page /33.
Methods
The following four veneering methods
can be applied to single doors and can be
repeated over pairs of doors, overpanels
and side panels:
Consecutively laid (Slip matched)
The lay-on is assembled across the face of
the door using adjacent sheets as cut from
the flitch. Sheets are laid next to each other
in the same order and with the same face
outward, resulting in a planked effect. Also
available is random slip matched.
Book matched
Two adjacent sheets, as cut from the flitch,
are placed next to each other and one is
turned over to create a mirror image. This
can be repeated over the door and used to
create a central focus.
Quartered
The veneers are laid reversed about two
axes so that a mirror image is created in
both width and height. Sheets can be cut
and arranged to give a centred feature. All
veneered doors have hardwood lippings to
both vertical edges, softened with a 3mm
radius, or alternatively to all 4 edges. These
can either be exposed or concealed as
required. Lippings are selected to colour
match either the veneer or frame
Centre jointed
Equal numbers of sheets are used working
outwards from the centre line of the door
in width. Sheets are selected so that the
left half of the door matches the right half,
resulting in a mirror image. Alternatively
adjacent sheets can be consecutively laid.
Centre feature
An unequal number of sheets are used and
the central veneer is used for its striking
appearance. To emphasise its focal position
the remaining sheets can be laid so that
those on the left half mirror those on the
right half. Alternatively adjacent sheets can
be consecutively laid.
Contrasting inlay
Veneers from different timbers can be laid
on the same door to produce a variety of
effects ranging from subtle differences to
the most striking design statement.
Bespoke veneer options
Inspirational veneer lay-ons can be
created to complement the surrounding
environment. Using individual pieces
of veneer we are able to manufacture
doorsets that will enhance and
complement the overall architectural
environment of your project.
34. More than a door.
Whether it is an office, performing arts
building, hospital or school, we will work
with you to deliver your requirements.
The combination of product, design and
performance ensures we are able to
meet all your specification requirements.
Our dedicated Technical Services Team
will support you from design through to
specification.
Complete creative freedom can also be
accommodated, working in partnership
with our veneer experts to realise more
adventurous designs. Various techniques
can be used including contrasting inlays
where veneers from different timbers or
combinations of tinted and natural veneers
are laid on the same door face. A variety of
effects can be created ranging from subtle
differences to the most striking design
statement.
Hygieniform PVC
Hygieniform is an anti-bacterial high impact
PVC available in 15 colours. Hygieniform
PVC incorporates a highly effective anti-
bacterial additive, throughout the thickness
of the material, which remains integral
therein, even if scratched, providing life-long
protection against the spread of infections.
The biocidally proactive additive kills most
species of harmful bacteria and goes on
killing them for the lifetime of the material.
The additive and its active ingredient
have approvals from the Food and Drug
Administration, Health & Safety Executive
and the Environmental Protection Agency.
It has also been given a 3 Point
endorsement by the NHS Infection Control
Rapid Review Panel.
The anti-bacterial additive used in
Hygieniform PVC has been tested and
independently verified by laboratories which
endorse the 99.9% kill rate of the bacteria.

Decorative laminates
Any laminate can be used to face Designer
door leaves allowing an almost unlimited
choice of solid colours, decorative patterns
and textures to be incorporated.
Paint finishes
Designer doorsets can be fully painted with
a factory applied pigmented polyurethane
paint available in any colour within RAL or
British Standard ranges, for which colour
matched pellets are supplied to conceal
frame fixings. We can provide samples for
selection and production control purposes,
or the specifier can supply material for
colour matching.
Metal facings
Sheet metal can be bonded to the door
construction during the manufacturing
process. The facing options include
patterned and brushed stainless steel.
Patterned steel facings can also be applied
in the form of trays to fully encapsulate the
door. Steel facings can be left clean, primed
or powder-coated with the exception of
patterned stainless steel which is self-
finished.
Envision
Any appropriate photographic image,
company logo, signage, symbols or
other graphical illustrations, patterns or
visual effects can be back printed onto a
transparent facing material to any Designer
door core. Images are enlarged to the size
of the door leaf; as such, images need to
be supplied with sufficient resolution to
maintain image quality. We recommend
that all artwork be supplied at 72dpi at
actual size.
The surrounding environment needs careful
consideration when choosing an image for
your door face. A key consideration is the
guidance set out in Approved Document M
and the BS8300 Code of Practice.
04 Finishes.
35. Page /35.
These documents outline the requirement
for certain surfaces and features to visually
contrast with their surroundings.
Areas of particular importance include:
• Door to wall
• Architrave to wall
• Handle to door face
• Door edge to face
• Primary leaf to frames/
secondary leaf in pairs
Depending on the image or design
selection, a strong image can help you
enhance the visual contrast required,
whether it’s the handle to the door face or
the door face to the wall.
Aperture size and position and the
placement of architectural ironmongery
are important considerations in relation
to the image. A section of the image will
be replaced by the aperture, or concealed
by the ironmongery which may obstruct
certain details of the image, impacting on
the effectiveness of the door face.
Consider the placement of the following:
• Handles
• Locks
• Door closing devices
• Kick and push plates
• Signage
Envision is patented No: GB2470064.
Timber
MDF, softwood or hardwood can be painted.
Hardwood can be polished.
Hardwoods
Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw is
independently assessed by BM TRADA to
meet the requirements of the FSC® Chain
of Custody Scheme. As a result, frames can
be specified using solid timber and timber
based raw materials exclusively from
well-managed and sustainable services
and independently certified by the Forest
Stewardship Council.
As timber is a natural material, variations in
shade and colour will occur – although this
usually diminishes over time. Frequently
used species are listed below, all of which
can be specified up to FD60.
• American White Ash
• Steamed Beech
• American Cherry
• Maple
• American Red Oak
• American White Oak
• Sapele
• American Black Walnut
Steel
Steel frames are available powder-coated
to any RAL or BS colour or supplied in a
stainless finish.
Anti-microbial protection
Our biocidally proactive additive that is
integral to the finish, provides protection
against harmful bacteria such as MRSA
and Salmonella. The additive works by
preventing the bacteria access to nutrients
so that they starve and die. It does not
employ silver technology, rendering it
completely UV stable and remains effective
for years because of its inherently low
water solubility.

Security
Small observation windows glazed with
laminated anti-bandit or ballistic resistant
glass are available as standard. The glass
is normally retained by high security
steel beads, with no fixings exposed on
the attack face. As standard, the bead is
supplied in a black powder-coated finish;
however a stainless steel finish is also
available. Alternative glazing materials
available include toughened polycarbonate
and 19mm Pyrosec glass – the latter
being particularly suitable for secure
accommodation such as seclusion rooms.
The standard vision panel size (reference
VB1) is 300mm square, giving a clear
viewing size of 230mm x 230mm. We
suggest that security vision panels are kept
as small as possible, with maximum clear
viewing width of 250mm.
For detailed information on radiation, 90 and 120 min fire and acoustic glazing beads and systems
please contact our Technical Services Team on 01773 530500.
40. 06 Vision panels.
More than a door.
Glazed vision panels are often used within door leaves to let light into a
room, for aesthetic reasons or for safety (i.e. allowing people using the door
to be seen).
Glazing
Glazing has a major impact on fire
performance and limitations are identified
in the Approved Documents. Aperture
shape and position, glazed area, style
of bead and type of glass all influence
fire performance, as well as appearance.
The most commonly used aperture
configurations, all available with fire
certification up to 120 minutes, are shown
opposite.
Alternative designs can be accommodated
and these should be discussed with us at
an early stage as shape, size and position
to your choice is subject to certification
parameters.
All aperture dimensions shown in this
section relate to cut-out size. To ensure
achievement of consistent quality, specified
performance levels and fire certification,
we strongly recommend that only factory
installed glazing be used.
Those designated comply with Approved
Document Part , BS 8300 and The
Equality Act. Vision panels should be
towards the leading edge and with vertical
dimensions including at least the minimum
zones shown, either with or without a
horizontal rail. All entrance doors and
doorsets, doors across corridors and within
lobbies, and where appropriate internal
doors require vision panels for door leaves
and side panels wider than 450mm.
Acoustic doorsets can accommodate
many of our standard vision panel designs
– all factory glazed (with glass to suit
acoustic and fire performance) using fully
sealed glazing beads. Glazing generally
has a lower acoustic performance than
the door (maximum 40RwdB) and will
reduce overall performance, directly in
proportion to the amount of glazing used.
It is therefore recommended to minimise
glazing in acoustic doorsets. Contact our
Technical Services Team to discuss your
design requirements.*

42. 07 Privacy vision
panels & air transfer
grilles.
Visicom – 40% vision
In areas where privacy is necessary, doors
and screens that obstruct vision can
hinder the ability to monitor a room or its
occupants for safety or security purposes.
Visicom privacy vision panels can achieve
up to 60 minutes fire resistance and are
an effective and reliable solution: a dual
purpose, easy to operate vision panel that
turns a clearly open-to-view area into a
private environment (and vice versa).
Panels are available in 2 standard sizes:
• 402mm x 402mm
• 802mm x 252mm
Customised dimensions are also
available on request, please contact our
Technical Services Team.*
Highline – 90% vision
Highline is a non-fire rated self-contained
vision panel comprising a fully adjustable
blind encapsulated within the glass. The
units are contained within a powder-coated
metal frame with an integral control
knob and can be installed with timber
or steel beads. The Highline panels offer
100% privacy when closed and 90%
visibility when open due to the thin blind
construction. Panels are available up to
full height of 2.5m for use in doors and
screens.
Intelliglass® – 100% vision
Intelliglass® vision panels provide up to
60 minutes fire resistance and are the ideal
solution where privacy may be required.
When electricity is applied to the film, the
vision panel is clear. When the power is
turned off, the glass returns from clear
to obscure.
Intelliglass® is available in two
standard sizes:
• 400mm x 400mm
• 800mm x 250mm
For non-standard sizes and further
information on any of our other glazing
options please contact our Technical
Services Team.*
Louvres and grilles
Air transfer grilles or louvres can be
fitted into some Designer doors and
can achieve up to 60 minutes fire
resistance with BWF CERTIFIRE approval.
Please contact our Technical Services
Team for further details.*

Door edges and lippings
Hardwood lippings are generally applied
to vertical door edges, although they can
also be applied to top and bottom edges
where required – for example where used
externally. Timber species are usually
selected to match veneers, as outlined
on pages 32 and 33. Lippings provide
protection to the edge of the door and
specifically its face, as well as covering the
door core. Details of door edges for various
situations are illustrated below/opposite.
Astragals and angle stops
For pairs of doors, astragals are required to
cloak meeting stiles for sound reduction at
38 RwdB and radiation areas.
Where pairs of doors are used with an
overpanel but without transom, steel angle
stops are fitted for the doors to close
against.

53. Intumescents and smoke seals
Perimeter fire seals are essential to
performance and form an integral part
of the doorset fire rating, irrespective of
stop size. There are three types available:
intumescent, intumescent and smoke seal
combined, and concealed intumescent.
The first two systems incorporate exposed
intumescent strips to the frame jambs and
head as standard, whereas the concealed
method houses the intumescent strips
behind vertical door lippings but exposed
on top – this provides 30 minutes fire
resistance only.
Generally, exposed intumescents are
15mm x 4mm for 30 minute performance
or 2 no 15mm x 4mm seals for 60
minutes. Intumescent colour is determined
by veneer selection and will be either
maple or light brown. If doorsets are
primed for paint white intumescents are
supplied as standard.
Where complete doorsets are being
supplied, all necessary intumescent seals
will be included to the frame as standard,
in order to achieve the stated performance.
In the case of pairs of fire-rated doors, a
combined intumescent and smoke seal
will be incorporated at the meeting stile of
the primary leaf corresponding with a plain
intumescent in the secondary leaf.
Where doors only are being supplied, seals
need to be specified precisely if required.
If intumescents are to be fitted by others,
they must comply with our fire certification
requirements under the BWF CERTIFIRE
data sheet or Trada Q-Mark schemes.
To reduce friction and aid compliance
with opening force requirements a PS01
compression seal is fitted in the stop to
provide smoke protection in accordance
with BS 476 Part 31.1, ‘Requirement for
Cold Smoke Protection’, providing the gap
at the bottom of the door does not exceed
3mm. If it does, an additional threshold seal
will be required.
The diagrams which follow indicate the
positions of intumescents and seals for
various fire ratings and configurations.
FD90 and FD120 doors are supplied
as part of doorsets only, including the
necessary intumescents.
Concealed intumescent for FD30
Exposed intumescent for FD60
Page /53.
54. Acoustic
Doorsets are supplied with all the
necessary seals fitted to either door
or frame. With acoustic doors the gap
between door and threshold on the floor
must also be sealed with contact seals or
wiping seals, depending on performance
requirements and floor finish. Thresholds
are needed and these must be level with
the door. They should be bedded on mastic
and screw-fixed direct to hard surfaces
while carpet and textured flooring should
stop either side. Low profile aluminium
thresholds may be fixed on a hardwood
packer so that the top of the threshold is
5mm above the floor finish.
Gaps between back of frame and wall must
be fully packed with mineral wool, leaving
only enough space for mastic pointing
or Ecoguard where no architrave is used.
Special care is needed to check that doors
close correctly all around, noting a slight
resistance when the door closes against its
seals.
• A level floor is essential to threshold
sealing
• Seal under the threshold and bottom of
jambs, as well as back of frame
• Frame should be plumb square and
level to ensure that seals contact fully
all around
• Seals must not be cut for ironmongery
• Never paint seals or close a freshly
painted door onto them
• Avoid damaging all seals, particularly
on the bottom edge
• Periodic checks of seals will help
maintain performance
It is possible to factory-fit recessed drop
seals into the bottom of the door leaf to
meet sound reduction criteria.
Drop seals
Drop seals should be factory-fitted at the
bottom of the door to close the gap with
the floor when the door is closed using a
mechanical system. This may be useful for
smoke containment and low level acoustic
control, particularly where the requirements
for disabled accessibility call for an
unimpeded floor surface. Where supplied
and fitted by others, we must be informed
early to adjust the door construction to
accommodate this.
Air pressure balancing
Factory-fit recessed drop seals can be
added into the bottom of the door leaf to
meet air control criteria. Air leakage test
results to BS 476 Part 31.1 under various
pressure differentials are available for air
balancing calculations.
Best practice on-site is critical, sound is
like water in that all gaps must be properly
sealed to stop leakage.
Thresholds
Thresholds may be needed for acoustic
and smoke control applications to restrict
below-door gaps, working in conjunction
with appropriate door-mounted seals.
Essential thresholds must be fixed parallel
to the bottom of the door and may be
screw-fixed directly to hard surfaces such
as concrete or smooth vinyl.
For carpet or textured/profiled vinyl
flooring, they can be fixed directly to floor
screeds.
Aluminium thresholds for acoustic
purposes should be located on a hardwood
packer (to suit the floor finish depth) with
mastic to threshold/packer and packer/
screed.
Note: Intumescent detail may vary from that shown
depending on performance and certification.

55. Meeting stiles
Regardless of fire rating the meeting stiles
on door pairs have bladed seals to block
the sightline.
Edge protection
Post-formed impact resistant PVC edge
protectors can be fitted to the leading edge
of the door leaf. These match the kick and
push plates ensuring total protection is
provided to both the face and edge of
the leaf.
EcoGuard™
To improve building safety, the newly
developed wedge-shaped EcoGuard™ seal
is designed for application between the
gaps of a doorframe and the surrounding
wall during installation. Its compressible
nature ensures a precise and dry fit can be
achieved in varying gap widths without the
need for messy intumescent mastic.
EcoGuard™ is a fully certified product
tested in accordance with BS 476 Part 22
and provides an even coverage around
the frame that is guaranteed to meet all
relevant fire safety regulations. Fire tested
to BS standards with EcoGuard™ fitted on
either side of the door for 30 minutes and
both sides for 60 minutes. EcoGuard™ also
meets BS smoke performance criteria
without the application of any additional
sealing and meets EN standards for
acoustics.
These characteristics are printed on each
strip so contractors can be reassured
it will satisfy building control officers
without the need for further investigation
– where mastic has been used they have
to invasively check it has been applied to
the correct depth, causing additional repair
work on-site.

1 - 12mm
• Suitable for single swing doors only

Pivette and Sentinel ironmongery
Pivette and Sentinel doorsets are supplied
complete with all essential ironmongery to
ensure that the performance characteristics
– opening force, sound reduction, smoke
control and fire resistance – are maintained.
The ironmongery pack supplied will vary
according to the performance and finish
specified.
Protection plates
Push, kick and general protection plates can
be factory fitted. These are recessed flush
with the face or surface mounted, and fixed
with screws or bonded in place. This can be
carried out on-site by others. Typical
200mm wide plates can be applied in
different combinations. Plate thickness will
be adapted to suit and they may need to
be balanced where larger plates are used
(except when screw fixed only).

62. Installation &
maintenance.
Designer doorset solutions should be considered as late second fix items, not for
installation until all ‘wet trades’ have finished.
Installation made easy
All frame sections are supplied pre-bored
and countersunk ready for fixing with
wood screws, proprietary expanding bolt
systems or self-tapping screws. Matching
discs are provided to conceal fixings.
Hinges are recessed as standard, lock
bodies and flushbolt bodies are factory
recessed where Leaderflush Shapland
Laidlaw architectural ironmongery
packages are supplied.
EcoGuard™ frame to wall seal is designed
for application between the gaps of a
doorframe and the surrounding wall
during installation. Its compressible
nature ensures a precise and dry fit
can be achieved in varying gap widths
without the need for messy intumescent
mastic.
All doorsets are carefully wrapped
and protected to avoid damage during
transportation. To simplify handling,
doors and frames are packaged
separately. All items are carefully labelled
for straightforward reassembly on-site.
To avoid damage on-site, it is important
that doorsets are stored in dry conditions,
with a relative humidity of 40% to 60%,
and stacked flat on a minimum of
3 bearers.
Our guarantee does not cover wilful
neglect or unskilled installation or
any defects which were visible before
the installation of the product but not
reported within seven days of delivery.
Low maintenance
For paint and laminates, a soft duster
or soap and water will usually clean the
surface satisfactorily to maintain the
appearance of painted and laminate
facings. Colour paints are available
to repair scratches or other damage.
Hardwood veneers and timber frames/
screens should be cleaned with a soft
duster. If desired, proprietary furniture
polishes can be applied, however, please
ensure doors are dusted first. Glazing
should be cleaned with warm water and
a non-abrasive detergent or a proprietary
glass cleaner.
Powder-based cleaners, bleaches or
ammonia should not be used as they can
leave a residue unless carefully rinsed
off. We recommend proprietary cleaners
to be tested on a small area prior to
cleaning large areas.
On-site modification
We can supply doors with provision
for on-site glazing but cannot certify
work carried out by others and in such
cases certification must be established
separately.
Any on-site modification of the door leaf
such as reducing the size or cutting of
apertures will invalidate our guarantee or
performance certification. Please contact
the Technical Services Team* for further
advice and guidance.

64. Compliance.
Tried & tested.
Fire
Fire resistance is one of the most
fundamental performance criteria for
doorsets. Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw
doorsets are third party certificated by the
BWF CERTIFIRE certification scheme or the
BM TRADA Q Mark scheme and comply
with Part B of the Approved Documents.
Doorsets supplied under the BM trada
Q-mark scheme are fitted with coloured
identification dowels signifying their fire
rating. Doorsets supplied under the BM
trada Q-mark scheme are fitted with
coloured identification dowels signifying
their fire rating.
Smoke
It is now generally acknowledged that,
in the event of fire, it is smoke that is
the major risk to occupants. Appropriate
smoke seals and intumescents are
automatically included with our doorsets to
suit performance requirements.
Sound
Part E of the Approved Documents 2013
includes quantifiable acoustic performance
levels. Designer doorset solutions offer up
to 46RwdB sound reduction and include
appropriate seals to suit performance
requirements.
Durability
Designer doorset solutions meet the
requirements of EN 1192 for strength
classification and EN 12400 for
mechanical durability.
Radiation
Designer radiation doorsets meet the
requirements of Public Health England
(PHE) in regard to lead thickness and
radiation levels.
Mobility & access
Designer doorset solutions comply with
Part M and consider additional BS 8300
provisions for accessibility.
Security
Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw has
developed a physical attack test procedure
and provides doorset solutions for
situations requiring resistance against
