2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I'd want to convey my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to my professors
as well as my supervisors for providing me with the chance to work on this
wonderful project......., which also aided me in conducting extensive study
and learning about a bunch of new topics.
I am quite grateful to them.
Second, I'd want to thank my friends for their assistance in completing this
project in such a short period of time. It was quite useful in terms of
expanding my knowledge and abilities.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED.

4. Fibre
Fibres are thin, long, flexible and hair or thread-
like structures. The fibres are usually obtained
from two main sources- Plants and Animals.
Natural fibres are the fibres that are obtained
from plants, animals or mineral sources.Cotton,
wool, silk are examples of Natural Fibres.
Apart from the natural Fibres, there are
Synthetic Fibres which are artificially
synthesized by humans with the help of
machines and technologies in the textile
industries. These fibres are also called as the
manmade fibres. Rayon Nylon and polyesters
are examples of Synthetic Fibres.

5. Whycottonfibreisimportant?
❑ Cotton fibers are natural hollow fibers they are soft,
cool, known as breathable fibers and absorbent.
❑ Cotton fibers can hold water 24–27 times their own
weight. They are strong, dye absorbent and can
stand up against abrasion wear and high
temperature.
❑ Cotton is prized for its comfort, easy-care, and
affordability and is ideal for clothing, bedding, towels,
and furnishings. In one word, cotton is comfortable.

6. Whycottonfibreisspinnable?
The following properties of cotton fibres are considered for cotton spinning:-
1. Fibre Length:- The average length of spinnable fibre is called staple
length. Staple length is one of the important fibre characteristics.
2. Fibre Fineness: Fibre Fineness is one of the most important parameter
determining the yarn quality characteristics.
3. Maturity:- The maturity of cotton is defined in terms of the development
of fibre cell wall.
4. Fibre Strength:-Fibre strength↑ ∝ Yarn & Fabric strength↑.
5. Fibre Cleanness:- cotton stock contain foreign matter or trash or foreign
material of various kinds:
▪ Vegetable matter:-Seed fragments. Stem fragments, Wood
fragments.
▪ Mineral material:- Sand, dust, coal.
▪ Others:-Metal fragments, Cloth fragments. 6
7. Speciesofcotton-Gossypiumbarbadense
Commonname:-AmericanPimacotton
Scientificname:-GossypiumbarbadenseL.
▪ Gossypium barbadense is one of several species of
cotton.
▪ It grows as a bush or small tree and yields cotton with
unusually long, silky fibers. The species is a tropical, frost-
sensitive perennial that produces yellow flowers and has
black seeds.
▪ G. barbadense originated in southwest Ecuador and
northwest Peru. It is now cultivated around the world,
including China, Egypt, India, Australia, Israel, the
southwestern United States, and Uzbekistan.
▪ It accounts for about 5% of the world's cotton production.
other names associated with this species include Sea
island,Pima,Egyptian and extra-long staple(ELS) cotton.

8. SUPIMACOTTON
▪ Supima cotton is a high-quality type of cotton that is
grown in USA that is made from Gossypium
barbadense.
▪ It is considered to be one of the softest and
strongest forms of cotton in the world.
▪ It represents less than 1% of cotton grown in the
world.
▪ Supima is 35% longer than regular cotton, which
makes the fiber 45% stronger and considerably
softer.
▪ What makes Supima unique to other cottons is the
extra-long staple fiber that gives the cotton its
premium properties: Strength, Softness and Color
retention

10. CONCLUSION
Here, I have come to the end of the project on the topic ‘’Gossypium
Barbadense”. I tried my best to include all the necessary points that are
required related to the given topic. Some of the information I wrote in the
project were taken from the internet and I have also referred to some books.
This project contains information of why cooton fibre is important and
spinnable and about cotton species which is Gossypium barbadense and
their varieties .
I do hope that my project will be interesting and may be even
knowledgeable.
