#26 the impact of aos! feedback from the medics!
1. Feedback from medical staff in August 2016. After 10 month of AOS the AOS team wished to know the impact the service had for the medical staff. Any comments
welcome to improve the service.
Forty five responses were received (56%)
Between June 2nd and July 2nd 2016 a SurveyMonkey questionnaire was distributed to all medical and surgical consultants and junior doctors within Cwm Taf UHB
(80). The medical education department emailed the web link to all the doctors on behalf of AOS. The responses were sent back to the authorโs SurveyMonkey
account. Not all questions were answered by all the respondents.

Quote from Q3 Treatment advice and extensive liaison between
specialities and this hospital and Velindre. Allows faster referral to oncology and
makes management/investigation of new cancer/cancer complications more
comfortable. Able to access otherwise elusive Canisc notes!
Quote from Q4 I have experienced an absolutely brilliant service from the AOS.
Always available and willing to help in any way possible, also a great way of providing a
little continuity for patients when doctors are ever changing. Just great! Especially during
my first experiences of breaking new cancer diagnoses it was invaluable to be able to
involvea nurse right from the offset as a support for myself and the patient!
Thanks to the Cwm Taf AOS team for their input.
The feedback was very positive towards AOS. One major theme that arose was a request for AOS education. AOS team had carried out some education
including at the junior doctorsโ induction across both DGHs in the health board. One CNS had provided a weekly (10 weeks) education to one A+E
department nurses. Other education planned was at the request of specific teams, COTE and GIM. In November the AOS team held a Grand Round which
was video conferenced across the two DGHs. Topics covered included MSCC audit, CUP pathway and the role of AOS. The CNSs are involved with
undergraduate medical education. They have delivered talks to third year medics on acute oncology. The evaluation of these sessions has been very
positive. Other teaching sessions has been carried out with junior doctors. Ongoing education and service awareness is an ongoing theme
.
AOS has been well received in Cwm Taf UHB. The SurveyMonkey is an effective and simple way of targeting a large cohort who can respond when it is
appropriate. Responses were positive and all supported the AOS. Education has increased for medical staff and this has been positively received. At the
time the service had been in operation for a year (seeing patients for ten months), therefore this was a positive experience.
