Homework Research Task for Ballad Unit

Next week we'll be studying a ballad about a real life event in American
history. Your task for Monday is to find out some key facts based on the
following questions.

•What was the Civil Rights Movement in America in the 1950s/60s?
•What were conditions like for black people in America during this time?
Black people were less fortunate than the white and never got what they
deserved
•Who were the Klu Klux Klan?The first KKK flourished in the South in the
1860s, then died out by the early 1870s. The second KKK flourished
nationwide in the early and mid 1920s, and adopted the costumes and
paraphernalia of the first Klan. The third Klan emerged after World War II
•What were their beliefs? `The Klan which originated in 1866 has lasted
through government
intervention, the Civil War, and the civil rights era (Ridgeway, 1995). However,
the Klu
Klux Klan has gone through the stages of a prominent social organization, a
secret
society, and even split into different factions throughout the changing history.
To fully
understand the U.S. born terrorist organization, one must investigate the beliefs,
rituals
and strategies of terror of the Ku Klux Klan.
•Who was Martin Luther King? What was his most famous speech? How
did he die?Martin Luther King was a politition
He fought for black rights but with only words and never meant any harm

Find at least two facts about each of the bullet points above and bring your
findings to Monday's lesson.
