Introduction
Imagine you are doing a 3-D cross-word puzzle with words interlocking in the horizontal, vertical and
diagonal spheres. Look and re-look, find a new word where there are already other words and mark more
points.
Wordx is a 3-D word game for 2, 3, 4 or more players. Play consists of forming words interlocking in all
three-dimensions horizontal, vertical and diagonal. The player with the highest score wins, words in the
vertical and diagonal spheres score more points.

2 Blank beads
Used blank beads as space or place holders to form words in the dimensional spheres. Blank beads are
not placed in the bead bag and are not drawn in random.
1 Bead bag
Place all the word beads in the bag.
4 Bead holders
To manipulate the beads into words.
12 x 3 Pins
The pins allow you to form words in the vertical and diagonal spheres.
3 Genihex® boards
Three single Genihex® boards combined to form the playing field. Players can form horizontal or diagonal
words of two to seven letters long, seven letter words in the vertical dimension. Longer horizontal and

Standard Rules
Start a new game
Place all the letter beads in the bag. The players draw one bead each from the bag, the player with the
bead closest to the letter ‘Z’ begins the new game (the smiley ‘(’ bead precedes ‘Z’). Return all the letter
and smiley beads to the bag and shake up the bag to randomize them. Players take turns to start
succeeding games.
All the player receives two blank beads at the start of a new game, then each player draws eight beads
from the bead bag and places them on their holder. The game continues in a clockwise direction. A player
have the option to form a word on the board, superseding beads, acquire blank beads or passing and or
find new words where there are already old words.
Elect scorekeeper
Elect one player to keep score the player may participate in the game. The scorekeeper keeps trek of
each player’s score and the direction of the words.
Replacing beads
A player may use their turn to replace any or all of the beads on their holder. They do thus by placing the
rejected beads back into the bag, shake up the bag and draw the same number of beads. The player then
await their next turn to play.
Acquire blank beads
Any player may obtain a blank bead or space holder by missing a turn. The player must state “obtain
blank” receive one blank bead and wait for the next turn. A player can also acquire blank beads if the
player replace blank beads with letter beads.
Passing
A player may prefer not to place or form a word on the board, superseding beads or do not need blanks,
regardless if forming a word is possible or not. However a player may be unable to move if all possible
words have been placed or there is no more space on the board, the player pass a turn. If all the players
pass twice in succession the game ends.
Forming the first word
The first word must be four or more letters long and placed in the vertical dimension reading up, down or
up and down. A player manipulates four or more letter beads to form a word and places the word in one of
the center pins of the board or combined boards.
After every turn
If a player has formed a word, the player draws the same number of beads as they have placed on the
board.
Subsequent turns
Words is formed in straight continuous lines, all beads played in any one turn must be placed in one
straight line in one of the three-dimensions. Words may be two or more letters long. Play continues as
players add one or more letters to those already played on the board, intersecting in the horizontal,
vertical or diagonal spheres, forming a new word or words. Straight lines intersecting adjacent words must
form a complete word in one of the three-dimensions. Letters between space holders do not have to form
words.
Once a bead has been placed on the board , it may not be moved unless the word was successfully
disputed or if a player is replacing the space holders (blank beads) with letter beads to form new words.
The old letter must be returned to the original position.
-4-
How to score
A horizontal straight continuous line word score 1 point for each letter in the word.
Vertical straight continuous line words scores 1 point for each letter in the word * 2 (Double word).
Diagonal straight continuous line words scores 1 point for each letter in the word * 3 (Triple word).
Find a new word where there are already other words, if it is the player’s turn to play, include all the
normal options.
Blank and smiley beads have a score of zero, if placed on the board.
Score a bonus
If a player place all eight of their word beads in a single turn on the board, the player scores a eight point
bonus for the turn. The bonus is added after the normal word score.
Disputes
A word may be challenged before the word is scored and before the next turn start. If the challenge or
dispute were successfully, the player has to remove the word and lose a turn.
The game ends
If a player has used all of their word beads and there are no more beads to draw.
If all the players pass twice in succession.
Every player’s score is penalized by number of their unused beads. Subtract one point for each bead left
including blank or smiley beads.
3-D words is formed in straight continuous lines, players may form more complex word shapes closed or
open geometrical structures, by playing the advance rules.

WordX

  • 1. © 1990, 2003. Raymond van Tonder. All Rights Reserved. -1- Introduction Imagine you are doing a 3-D cross-word puzzle with words interlocking in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal spheres. Look and re-look, find a new word where there are already other words and mark more points. Wordx is a 3-D word game for 2, 3, 4 or more players. The players draw one bead each from the bag, the player with the bead closest to the letter ‘Z’ begins the new game (the smiley ‘(’ bead precedes ‘Z’). Return all the letter and smiley beads to the bag and shake up the bag to randomize them. Players take turns to start succeeding games. All the player receives two blank beads at the start of a new game, then each player draws eight beads from the bead bag and places them on their holder. The game continues in a clockwise direction. A player have the option to form a word on the board, superseding beads, acquire blank beads or passing and or find new words where there are already old words. Elect scorekeeper Elect one player to keep score the player may participate in the game. The scorekeeper keeps trek of each player’s score and the direction of the words. Replacing beads A player may use their turn to replace any or all of the beads on their holder. They do thus by placing the rejected beads back into the bag, shake up the bag and draw the same number of beads. The player then await their next turn to play. Acquire blank beads Any player may obtain a blank bead or space holder by missing a turn. The player must state “obtain blank” receive one blank bead and wait for the next turn. A player can also acquire blank beads if the player replace blank beads with letter beads. Passing A player may prefer not to place or form a word on the board, superseding beads or do not need blanks, regardless if forming a word is possible or not. However a player may be unable to move if all possible words have been placed or there is no more space on the board, the player pass a turn. If all the players pass twice in succession the game ends. Forming the first word The first word must be four or more letters long and placed in the vertical dimension reading up, down or up and down. A player manipulates four or more letter beads to form a word and places the word in one of the center pins of the board or combined boards. After every turn If a player has formed a word, the player draws the same number of beads as they have placed on the board. Subsequent turns Words is formed in straight continuous lines, all beads played in any one turn must be placed in one straight line in one of the three-dimensions. Words may be two or more letters long. Play continues as players add one or more letters to those already played on the board, intersecting in the horizontal, vertical or diagonal spheres, forming a new word or words. Straight lines intersecting adjacent words must form a complete word in one of the three-dimensions. Letters between space holders do not have to form words. Once a bead has been placed on the board , it may not be moved unless the word was successfully disputed or if a player is replacing the space holders (blank beads) with letter beads to form new words. The old letter must be returned to the original position.
  • 4. -4- How to score A horizontal straight continuous line word score 1 point for each letter in the word. Vertical straight continuous line words scores 1 point for each letter in the word * 2 (Double word). Diagonal straight continuous line words scores 1 point for each letter in the word * 3 (Triple word). Find a new word where there are already other words, if it is the player’s turn to play, include all the normal options. Blank and smiley beads have a score of zero, if placed on the board. Score a bonus If a player place all eight of their word beads in a single turn on the board, the player scores a eight point bonus for the turn. The bonus is added after the normal word score. Disputes A word may be challenged before the word is scored and before the next turn start. If the challenge or dispute were successfully, the player has to remove the word and lose a turn. The game ends If a player has used all of their word beads and there are no more beads to draw. If all the players pass twice in succession. Every player’s score is penalized by number of their unused beads. Subtract one point for each bead left including blank or smiley beads. 3-D words is formed in straight continuous lines, players may form more complex word shapes closed or open geometrical structures, by playing the advance rules.
