Hello!
3. In 1-2 words, how
would you describe
the gaps within
your current
organization?
4. “This type of situation goes on every day
(...), so they impose irrational demands
through the imposition of corporate
power structures. This isn’t merely a
software development problem, it runs
throughout Dilbertesque organizations.”
– History: The Agile Manifesto
6. A strategy gap come about when there
is a non-existent, unclear, or
inconsistent foundational strategy. Your
foundational strategy shows what
game you’re playing and what winning
looks like. Many people find it harder
to not know what game they’re playing
than to lose at a game they really want
to play.
7. “At regular intervals, the
team reflects on how
to become more effective,
then tunes and adjusts
its behavior accordingly.”
– Agile Principles: The Agile
Manifesto
9. A planning gap ensues when there’s a
strategy without a plan of action.
Having a well-articulated strategy is
insufficient to drive great results in
your team, simply because that
strategy needs to be converted into a
plan of action.
10. “Becoming a responsive
organization is possible when
decision-making is decentralized.
Real transformation is possible,
if and when, decision-rights are
distributed in service to
improving flows of value.”
- Boundary Management:
Open Business Agility
11. On a scale of 1-3,
how would you rate
your workplace
communication?
12. A communication gap arises when there’s
a strategy and a plan, but they aren’t
being communicated broadly and
consistently. The people with the strategy
and plan don’t know how to parse the
“higher-up” strategy, and plan into
something that people “doing the work”
can understand and find relevant and
compelling.
13. “Business (people) and
developers must work
together (daily)
throughout the project.”
“The most efficient and
effective method of
conveying information to
and within a development
team is (face-to-face)
conversation.”
Agile Principles: The
Agile Manifesto
15. A systems gap exists when the strategy,
plan, and communications are in place,
but people have to fight against the
business’s systems (processes,
procedures, and tools).
16. “Within well-defined
boundaries, people are happiest
and do their best work when
they are making decisions within
a well-understood and durable
set of constraints. Self-
organization works best when
people have a clear goal, and a
not-too-confining set of
guardrails to work from.”
- Boundary Management:
Open Business Agility
18. A performance gap occurs when teams
or individuals are given “everything”
they need (the strategy, plan,
communication, and systems) to
accomplish their goals, yet still can’t
seem to manage or do so.
19. “Build projects around
motivated individuals.
Give them the environment and
support they need,
and trust them to get the job
done.”
– Agile Principles: The Agile
Manifesto
