2. WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT
• An initiative to promote manfacturing within the country to
meet the domestic as well as global demands.
• Aims to grow manufacturing sector from 16 to 25 % share in
the national GDP as per other asian counterparts.
• It provides the manufacturers both national and multinational an
oppurtunity to invest in sectors such as
automobiles,railways,infrastructures,defence, space,food
processing etc.

reforming the land bill, labour related issues ,fast approval of
development projects etc.
• In the process, the govt. expects to generate jobs, attract much FDI
and transform india into a manfacturing hub.
3. WHY MAKE IN INDIA
• Trade deficit – we import more than what we export which brings
down the foreign reserves ,rupee value in currency market and finally it
weakens the economy.
• Unemployment-despite 40% youth population ,a large workforce is
still unemployed.
• Rising demand for goods and services-with growing
population the demands too are increasing ,we have to expand the
manufacturing sector to supply the demand.
• Skill development-by helping manufacturing sector we can
make our workforce more skilled.
• Sluggish economic growth-without manufacturing an
economy can’t grow. It has the potential to push the economic
growth rate forward by 1-2 %.
4. Steps taken
• Creating conductive environment-developing industrial
corridors and smart cities with state of the art technology and
facilities.
• Roping in foreign direct investments- raising FDI cap
limit upto 49 % in defence ands like 100% in sectors like railways.
• Target specific approach-25 ministries are working
collectively to achieve sector specific targets .
• Investor facilitation cell- to guide and assist first time
investors .
• Online and faster clearances from ministries-
reduction in no. of documents for foreign trade and application for
environment clearances.
5. Pending reforms
• GST bill - not only provide a common market but makes
cost of production and competitiveness far more effective. It
also reduces logistics cost , transaction costs and time taken
in delivery of goods.Has been stuck in rajya sabha since last
may.
• Labour reforms-The govt. has failed to pass the labour
reforms which aims to improve their wage system, security
facilities and laws related to child labour and bonus payments.
