4. Center Of Excellence
The SEWA Delhi-Monsoon Centre of Excellence was inaugurated on
24th
of June 2014 in the New Ashok Nagar Area of Delhi. The concept of
the building was designed and formulated to be the focal point model
centre to teach transparency and enhancing income level to the industry
people. The aim is to develop the centre into a learning hub for the
entire garment industry with special focus on embellishment by
organizing special training sessions for the retailers, suppliers and
contractors on fee basis that will generate resources for the centre.
At present the centre acts as the crux of Ruaab SEWA’s activities where
members assemble in a safe and clean atmosphere to work, conduct
quality checks, collect and submit orders. An Information Desk (SEWA
Shakti Kendra) booth is also placed for members to avail SEWA’s
programs for social awareness and government linkages.
5. Our Retail Brand – ‘Loom Mool’
the Mool oressence is the loom.”
LoomMool is a brand established by Ruaab in October2013 to house
products made by various artisans of SEWA collectives across India.
Loom Mool’s story starts with weavers. They are the inspiration for the
name and the reason for its creation. The starting point and objective of
the brand is to support as many weaver families from Bihar as possible -
In the villages along the outskirts of Bhagalpur, Bihar, mud houses
wind around small paths and patches of agricultural fields. Venturing
into these homes you will find elaborate textile handlooms dug into the
smoothed mud floors. The loomis the tool forsustaining the entire
artisan community. The families from these communities wait for
middlemen to come with work. When they come, if they come, they work
and get paid. These artisans are isolated and excluded
6. Our Retail Brand – ‘Loom Mool’
The middlemen hold the thread that connects them to the outside world,
to the market. So the artisans grab on to the other end. They can’t
negotiate for more money, despite the incredibly low wages paid forthe
skilled laborof their hands.
SEWA identified Bhagalpuras an area of need, but also of potential.
In 2010, the SEWA Saheli BunkarCooperative was formed to give
Artisans a voice, break the cycle of poverty, and save traditional craft.
Through the cooperative weavers are directly linked to the market and
middlemen are cut out entirely
Through Loom mool we also reach out to other artisans belonging to
craft sectors involved in Bamboo products, Tie & Dye, Blockprinting,
Madhubani artists. Our future endeavour, will be to expand, promote
and link artisan in the other craft sectors as well.
