Principle Investigator: Flourishing Families Project (2006-present).
Description: This is a longitudinal survey of 500 families in Seattle WA and 180
families in Utah County, Utah. The purpose of the study is examine the role of
close personal family interaction and its impact of adolescent well-being as
teens transition into young adulthood. Project has involved approximately 20
graduate and 700 undergraduate students who have participated in data
collection, project design and implementation, behavioral coding activities,
manuscript preparation, preparing and delivering presentations at local and
professional meetings and other venues, and assisting professors with data

analysis.
Project Organizer: Prison Intervention in the UK (2014- present).
Description: This project involves connecting with existing programs designed
to assist prisoner returning home. Research targets strategies to reduce
recidivism. Project work in 2014 involved three undergraduates for two weeks
who helped interview program providers in London area. Information from the
interviews in now being organized in preparation for a collaborative research
project with target organizations.

two advanced graduate students and three faculty.

Description: This was an eleven-person summit gathering together the best
family scholars who focus on fathering research. A future research agenda was
created an implemented.
National Indicators of Positive Well-Being. Multi-Year research project sponsored by
John Templeton Foundation awarded to Child Trends (2009- present).
Description: Child Trends assembled several family scholars to develop 20
measures of positive adolescent well-being that can be incorporated into
national surveys. Our first meeting was August 31st
2009.
Principle Investigator: Men in Prison research initiative.
Description: This project was supported by the Family Studies Center,
Brigham Young University from 2004-2006. During this time 42
undergraduate and graduate students interviewed 234 men returning
home from prison in three prisons in the US and four prisons in the UK.

Associate member of Family and Child Well-Being Network, 1994-2005. This network
administered two large-scale federal grants delivered by the National Child
Health Development office with National Institutes of Health. My role was an
associate member first with Dr. Jay Teachman, Washington State University and
then with Dr. Sandy Hofferth, University of Maryland. Over the course of ten-
years, our group produced research and programing using approximately 11
million dollars in grant money allocated to the Network.
Invitational Experience
Fatherhood Research and Practice Network Steering Committee (2013-present). This
committee has secured a $500,000 grant to deliver research and services to
father strengthening programs. The grant is administered by the Federal
Administration for Youth and Families—Dr. Jay Fagan lead Principle

The purpose of the study is examine the role of close personal family interaction and its impact of adolescent well-being as teens transition into young adulthood. Project has involved approximately 20 graduate and 700 undergraduate students who have participated in data collection, project design and implementation, behavioral coding activities, manuscript preparation, preparing and delivering presentations at local and professional meetings and other venues, and assisting professors with data 7
  • 8. analysis. Project Organizer: Prison Intervention in the UK (2014- present). Description: This project involves connecting with existing programs designed to assist prisoner returning home. Research targets strategies to reduce recidivism. Project work in 2014 involved three undergraduates for two weeks who helped interview program providers in London area. Information from the interviews in now being organized in preparation for a collaborative research project with target organizations. National Indicators of Positive Well-Being. Multi-Year research project sponsored by John Templeton Foundation awarded to Child Trends (2009- present). Description: Child Trends assembled several family scholars to develop 20 measures of positive adolescent well-being that can be incorporated into national surveys. Our first meeting was August 31st 2009. Principle Investigator: Men in Prison research initiative. Description: This project was supported by the Family Studies Center, Brigham Young University from 2004-2006. During this time 42 undergraduate and graduate students interviewed 234 men returning home from prison in three prisons in the US and four prisons in the UK.
