Socio-Economic Conditions of the Tribals and Resulting Social
Alienation
Exploitation and backwardness are found many community
and social groups in India; it has resulted in social alienation
among tribes.
The process of sanskritisation and modernization
Not only the economic condition but also existence of
distinct culture and life style forced them towards social
alienation.
12
13. Impact of public Policies on Welfare Programmes: A Case
study of Gadda Gundu Thanda
Various welfare programes has been implemented for the
development of the Tribal community. But still they are out
of the main stream of the society.
The objective of the study is to find out the process of
implementation and its impact of various welfare
programmes
It has been found that except the housing plans all plans have
been impacted vary poor. It was not only the corruption and
partisan nature of bureaucrats and politicians but also lack of
education, awareness, and alcohol habits are the basic reason
for such impact of the welfare programmes.
Gender Discrimination among Tribals: A Case Study of
Lambada Community
Cultural changes have been taken place among the lambada
community.
Community living with cast stratified society.
Resulted in all round determination which leads to the
eagliatarian community from the practice of bride price to
dowry.
13
14. Migration and its Effects on Tribal House holds- A Case Study
of Bhadrachalam Agency, Khammam District, Andhra
Pradesh
Migration is a big challenge in front of society. The rate of
migration is high among the tribal community.
Various Tribal welfare programmes and other policies have
been adopted to bring down the increasing migration.
The basic objective of the study will to find out the basic
reason behind the migration and its impact. It will critically
examine the impact of various polices towards migration.
Implementation of MGNREGA and its Impact on Socio-
Economic Status of the Tribals: A Case Study of Andhra
Pradesh and Odisha
Not like the other employment generated programme,
NREGA came with a legal framework with approaches for
development through socio-economic empowerment of poor
and marginalized.
A Comparative study has been proposed to find out the
impact on socio-economic status of the Tribal community
from implementation of MGNREGS with same institution
but different in outcome in different states.
14
15. The basic objective of the study will be the working,
constraint and impact of the MGNREGA on the tribal
community.
Education Status of Scheduled Tribes in Andhra Pradesh:
Attainment and Challenges
The literacy rate has reached 74% in 2011 but the Scheduled
Tribes are still lag behind.
Dropout rate is 40% in primary school among the community
which increases from primary to secondary and later to
higher education.
Quality of education that they get does not allow them to
improve their life chances.
SC & ST students experienced different kind of
discrimination in educational institutions which affects their
performance.
The objective of the present study is to critically examine the
problems that SCs/STs students face; and will make
suggestions for improvement in the situation.
This is a restudy of ICSSR which previously conduced an
survey in early 1970s.

INNOVATION IN TEACHING
Designed Optional Courses for M.A III and IV semester students
1) Politics of Tribal Development in India –Course No. 535:
The objective of this course is to introduce the students to the
collective life, struggles, movements and aspirations of the tribes
of India. Tribes form an important segment of the Indian society,
the population of which constitutes 8 per cent of the total Indian
population. Each of the tribes has developed its own social
organization, means of living and cultural identity. They did make
attempts to resist the domination of the British colonizers and, in
fact, the colonial administration had set up special institutions for
the governance of the tribes. The post-independent India has also
made special provisions for the welfare of tribes. The tribal leaders
have been inducted into the policy-making institutions. The
government has been consistently making efforts for the socio-
economic development and integration of the tribal population
with the mainstream. However, the tribal population has been
20
21. facing a plethora of problems in connection with the forest
policies, land alienation to non-tribes and so on, which at several
points of time spurred into movements and struggles in asserting
their rights and attracting the attention of the government. At times
there has been even violation of human rights. The tribes have also
been subjects of attraction by the Christina missionaries as well as
Naxalites that has caused significant change in the lives of the
tribes. Of late, globalization has also started affecting the tribes.
This course basically introduces the issues concerning tribes in
connection with the public policies and development.
• Prepared an extensive reading list of books and articles from
various sources for the above course.
• Apart from the conventional teaching, in order to make the
students more acquaintance with the social reality film
documentaries were also used in Tribal Politics in India.
