US open 2022: Ruud and Jabeur reach the semifinals of the US Open
The French Open runner-up Ruud defeated Berrettini in the July Gstaad final
on clay. She was equally successful on the hard court by repositioning herself
below the baseline to deflect the 13th seed’s strength.
Ruud breezed through the first set quickly, committing just two unforced
errors, and it appeared like he would win easily when he led the second set 5-
1.
“Everything worked out for me. I was making every shot and hitting every
location that I needed to. Perhaps Matteo wasn’t displaying himself at his
usual level, “Ruud replied.
But Berrettini, who has missed several matches this season owing to illness or
injury, gradually started to perform at his typical level. In the third set, when
he broke Ruud in the second game and saved four breaks in the third, he
seemed to have discovered the secret.
Ruud made a fantastic comeback in the ninth game, breaking Berrettini, and
he never trailed in the tiebreak.
In an on-court interview, Ruud claimed, “That was (a) better start than I ever
had in a match,” adding that he had to control his vitality to win the match.
He explained that people occasionally become overexcited and believe they
can walk on water.
The current holder, Daniil Medvedev, lost in the fourth round, giving him and
third seed Carlos Alcaraz a chance to claim the world number one ranking in
Flushing Meadows.
Ruud affirmed, “Of course, it’s a little (extra) motivation. Naturally, I’m attempting to take a chance.
The Norwegian had raised his game, said to Berrettini, who defeated Ruud in the third round in New York two years prior.
“I believe that he will return (has improved). Likewise, his serve. He can change it up, “reporters, he said. His completeness is greater.
Ruud had to withdraw from the Australian Open after rolling his ankle the day before the competition. Still, he demonstrated this year that
he could compete on hard courts by making it to the Miami final and Montreal semifinal.
He said, “I’m honestly a little surprised that I made it to the semis here, but I think I have developed my hard court game a lot the last year
or two.”
“Miami this year demonstrated to me, and I demonstrated to myself that I can defeat top competitors and advance further in significant
hard court championships.”
Jabeur defeated Australian Ajla Tomljanovic with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7/4). In July, Jabeur made history by becoming the first African woman
to compete in the Wimbledon final.
Garcia, the in-form 17th seed, defeated the 18-year-old Gauff 6-3, 6-4 in Tuesday’s other quarterfinal, and the 28-year-old will now play
Garcia in the semifinals.
After a run that included a victory over Serena Williams in the third round, likely the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s last singles match
before retiring, Tomljanovic had advanced to the quarterfinals.
The tenacious fifth-seeded Jabeur, a Tunisian, attacked from the start and never let up, ending the Australian of Croatian descent’s valiant
struggle. Must read: https://news.1xbooknews.com/2022/09/06/us-open-2022-frances-tiafoe-beat-rafael-nadal-to-enter-the-quarter-finals/
Jabeur claimed that after making it to the Wimbledon final, where Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina defeated her in three sets, she had gained
confidence.
Jabeur stated, “I believe more in myself. “After Wimbledon, things went extremely well. Even though I lost the final, I was certain that I could
still complete a Grand Slam. I’m now in the US Open semifinals.” https://g.co/kgs/BkHWkU
Fans in Tunisia refer to Jabeur lovingly as the “Minister of Happiness” because of the happiness that her success on the court has given to
her native country.
