This document outlines several innovative livelihood opportunities for urban areas being implemented under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) in India. Some of the opportunities discussed include:
- Training and supporting young women to become auto drivers/owners to provide transportation and address security issues for women travelers.
- Training women in marketing and sales to promote products made by self-help groups through dedicated kiosks.
- Providing training and licensing for street food vendors to improve hygiene, safety and quality of food.
- Registering and employing local service providers like plumbers and electricians through a cooperative society.
- Elevating domestic workers through training to become home managers.

Selection of interested young women as Women
Auto Driver cum Owner, to be trained with
driving skills, providing driving licence and auto
under Self Employment Scheme (Individual) of
NULM. This program will be a solution for many
lone women travellers, College girls, working
women, women came to towns newly, who is not
having knowledge of area and address. The
antecedents of the Women Auto Drivers will also
be verified as few women before providing
training & licence. This program will not only
provides employment to women but also solves
many security issues of lone women.

Selection of interested young women and train them
with customer relations, marketing techniques, book
keeping and attitude & behaviour to undertake
marketing support of products produced by the
women entrepreneurs of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Special Kiosks will be provided to them along with
Vendor identity card, Vending certificate and dress
code, which promote the daily sales to 3-4 folds and
provide protection from ante street vending sections.
This method of marketing, promote the quality
production and regular sale of all Self Help Group
women products which is major concern of them.

Providing training inputs on health & hygiene,
food safety & security measures under act along
with licence, registration and issue of identity
card & vending certificate and social security
along with a special kiosk to the food street
vendors under SEP (I) of NULM. Through this
program, the providing quality food at fair price,
decent distribution of food products, better
waste disposal, keeping the vicinity clean &
hygiene and using good base material in
preparation of food will be taken care.

Registering of service providers, who are mainly
spouses or kin of SHG women like carpenters,
plumbers, painters, electricians, repairing of household
& kitchen ware, repair of mobiles, payment of bills &
door delivery of daily requirements and any other
special job work required by the residents of that area
into a cooperative society under coordination with
Municipal Authority and Police, by verifying the
antecedents before providing employment to them by
linking them to the households, where these services
are required, by maintaining a local call centre
operated by the society.

Selection of young women from domestic
work force and who are members of SHGs to
elevate them as Domestic Home Managers by
providing them, the training inputs of hotel
management, hospitality, first aid, children &
aged care techniques and telephone ethics.
City level Federation will be the coordination
agency for deployment, wage collection &
distribution, social security and providing
refresher inputs.

Maintaining Central Kitchen for supply of selected
brake-fast items and meals by certain women groups
and distributing the same by linking food vendors to
them or organising small hotels ( Model of Vijayawada
Ramachandraiah Bhojanashala in Vizag ). Special Hotel
Management & Hospitality skills will be provided to
women entrepreneurs in NITHM, SIHM and any other
local Hotel Management Institute, selected through
empanelment. This program not only provides
employment to many women but also provide quality
food to the residents of the town at fair price.

Selecting young entrepreneurs from various towns of
the State and provide them technical inputs for 4-6
months along with certification on the special selected
components, which is based on culture and tradition of
the area like weaving, kalamkari, philigri, metal items
with painting, pot painting, items with bamboo,
designing of various items like dressings such as
Lambada dress making (mirror work) and various other
Local & Traditional crafts and food products
preparation promotion program. The services of
specialists of the area will be utilized in providing
training inputs, which makes the entrepreneurs with
all required inputs to produce the same quality
products in their towns by establishing production
unit.

Promoting the young men and women with the
skills of security methods for 3-4 months by
selecting good quality security institutes, which
not only solves the problems of security but also
provide huge employment opportunities to
youth. This program also support the selection
process of defence, police and other protection
forces as the inputs provided to them in security
training are more similar inputs required for
recruiting them into the above organisations.
11. Innovative activities of LH
Through vigorous market scan, various petty job
information ( such as data entry operators, sales
force, sales executives, house-keeping, office
attendants, ward boys & women in hospitals,
serving force & supervisors in hotels, drivers
etc.,) will be collected along with the inputs
required for that organisations to provide
employment to local youth and link the local
youth to that jobs. In this method, minimum of
Rs.6000/- to Rs.10000/- monthly compensation
will be available, which supports their family and
to improve the career opportunities in future.
12. Innovative activities of LH
Providing required inputs of Software and other
Industries to the existing meritorious Engineering
graduates through competent Institutes, with the
support from faculty of concerned employer
organisation and place them in that organisation
with decent compensation. We may utilise the
funds under National Urban Livelihood Mission
up to Rs.14000/- per candidate and Rs.1000/- will
be given to Certifying agency, stipulated by
National Skill Development Corporation.
