Company foundation and history
The State Company of Mining Industries is affiliate of Iraqi ministry of
industry & minerals. The company founded in 1992 and has pursued an
industrial strategy characterized by the exploitation of local raw materials
and ores, recycling of aluminum and Iron scrap in near future and Iraqi
facilities available nearby to turn them into products that benefit the
development plan in Iraq. The company has three main activities, which are
the production activity of both types, structural and mining, projects activity,
and finally R & D activity.
Because of the economic aspects in Iraq, another company produces
chemical products has united with the mother company, besides the
departments of mineral excavation and investments in 2016.
Location and yard
The company located in Al-Tajiat, Baghdad, 35 km far from Baghdad center
and 15 km from Al-kadhimiya, Baghdad. The company lay on about 400,000
square meter. The production lines in the company used different types of
furnaces such as arc furnace for silicon and calcium carbide, induction
furnace for aluminum billets, rotary tilting and direct fire furnaces for
recycling aluminum scrap. UBC shredded by metal shredder, then feed this
shreds to de-coating furnace, then melting in rotary tilting furnace. The
company recycle more than 1000 ton of aluminum scrap monthly.
Where do you specialize in?
The company produces polymeric asphalt felt, Asphaltic coatings, and the
concrete additives for waterproofing and cement.
In the field of metallurgy, the company produces aluminum powder for paint
and AAC by using scrap of aluminum profiles, aluminum ingots in 98% Al
purity by using Used Beverage Cans, oil wells saline solution, calcium
carbide for cutting. The company in the startup stage of MG Silicon
production project for silicones and solar power. the company planning to
establish high productive ferrosilicon alloys plant in 25,000 ton per year to

in the field of mineral extraction, the company produces both industrial salt,
crude salt, Iron stone, silica sand for glass and ceramics, for White and black
Cement, kaoline, bauxite, bentonite and other earth minerals.
The new production activity of the company is chemicals such as PVA,
Alkyd Resin, novolak resin, polyester resin, petroleum oils, inks, rock wool,
and color concentrates.

The company specializes in the production of all products from asphalt used
in waterproofing of buildings and construction, as well as specializes in the
production of mining and metallurgical products used in various industries.
The company also specializes chemical industries, the company is the only
company in Iraq specialized in the production of resins, including alkyd and
PVA and rock wool, fiberglass, inks and color concentrates designed and
produced on demand and according to international standards.
R&D
The company achieved many researches in the metallurgical field over a
decade at both laboratory and pilot plants, including: -
- Preparation of iron oxide from Al-Hussianiyat hematite iron ore in western
desert.
- Preparation of silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloy from high purity sand,
which is located in the Western desert by submerged electric arc furnaces
technology.
- Preparation of magnesium powder from fusion salts.
- Preparation of dead burned magnesia from bitter water.
- Preparing of chemicals from bitter water.
- Purification of silica sands by chemical method.
- Preparation of aluminum oxide on the pilot plant stage.
Some of these researches converted from laboratory stage into production
lines as follows:-
• Aluminum flake powder and paste.
• The project of producing aluminum castings from aluminum cans in
the production rate of (600) ton per year.
• Calcium Carbide in the production rate of (300) ton per year.
• Magnesium Oxide.

Planning Projects
The company planning the execution of its projects. Some the following
project is under construction and the others will executed within upcoming
three years:-
1. The project of developing and expanding the pilot plant of flake
aluminum powder in the production rate of (100) ton per year.
2. The project of rehabilitation of Basrah Slattern in the production rate
of (500,000) ton per year.
3. The completion of the bentonite ore activation project in the
production rate of (75,000) ton per year.
4. The project of opening Ironstone mine of Al Hussianiyat area in the
western desert.
5. The project of development and expanding the production of solid
brines and salt solutions for the purpose of oil wells in which meet
the required technical characteristics of the investment companies .
Silicon Industry in the Company
The researches of preparing silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloy from silica
sands has resulted a technical and economical indications that encouraged us
to go ahead to establish a production plant to meet the country needs and
export abroad.
The high purity of silica sands reaches (97-98 %) in the quarry.
Ability of rising the purity of silica sands to more than 99% by physical
method.
Availability of charcoal and iron turning for silicon industry.
Low prices of raw materials used in this industry.
There is a local need to the silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloy.
The years of experience in the operation of (Submerged Arc Furnace)
and understanding of the technology of production.
Because of these indications and R&D results, the company planed the
establishing of its silicon projects. The company now construct the project of
producing metallurgical silicon (98-99) percentage from Iraqi high silica
sands in the production rate of (300) ton per year for the purpose of Ibn Sina
Chemical Company.
Silicon project has been completed and in the stage of startup.
4. The company is in the stage of conducting the economic feasibility study
for establishing project for ferrosilicon alloy production, which supports the
silicon industry in Iraq.
Future Goals
The company is planning to establish a plant for ferrosilicon alloys
production in the production capacity of (25,000) ton per year from Iraqi
high silica sands in the manner of investment to meet increase of local
demand and for export of the alloy.
1. The company has an incomplete project of (Dead Burned Magnesia)
from bitter water from Basra slattern at production rate (22,000) ton
per year for the purpose of state company for refractory which produce
Magnesia brick. The company needs to the know-how and technical
assistance to achieve this goal.
2. The company is planning to establish a plant for produce Vanadium
Inhibitor at production capacity of (8,000) ton per year from by
using the intermediate product of the dead burned magnesia plant for
the purpose of power generating plants.
3. The company is planning to establish a plant for producing soda ash at
production capacity of (150,000) ton per year from local limestone
deposits and NaCl deposits in Samawa quarry for local demand and
export.
4. The company is planning to establish a plant for producing caustic
soda from local NaCl deposits in Samawa quarry or Basra.
5. The company is planning to establish a plant for producing alumina
from local deposits of kaolin for the purpose of refractory industry in
Iraq.
6. The company decided to exploit more than 24 sites of different earth
minerals in Iraq
7. Trend towards the production of both metals, and alloy powders of
(copper, lead, tin, Bronze and brass).
8. Trend towards atomizing metals process by using different fluids such
as various gases or water.
9. The company planning to extend aluminum industry by building
aluminum profile plant at production capacity 20 ton per day.
10.Trend towards electrochemical metallurgy methodologies and in future
prospects is access to the use of nanotechnology.
11.Building a GRP production line in different sizes and production
capacities using modern technology.
