Question 2

  How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
‘Broadcast’ represents particular social groups through my use of pictures,
                                    texts and fonts.

                                    Pictures

My main picture has 5 ‘boy band By using this picture, it draws
stars’ on it. I used this picture the attention of customers to
because it stands out to the him and the guitar.
ages of 14-25 who have a It makes girls want to look at
musical genre of ‘alternative’. the musician and boys to read
Their using eye contact and about him, so it’s produced for
wearing specific clothing to a both genders.
genre of music

Although my magazine covers genres from rock to acoustic, I used strong colours
and neatly contrasted pictures to emphasize on the outcome of my overall magazine.
Differences in images – ‘Broadcast’ - ‘Top of the pops’

Top of the pops - ages between 10-16
        Broadcast – ages between 14-25
Similarities – ‘Kerrang!’ – ‘Broadcast’

My magazine is
intended for
teenagers who
enjoy specific
music such as
Biffy Clyro,
Weezer, Deaf
Havana, The script
and many more.
This is because of
the way I write and
inform readers
about the current
bands' social life
and music history
through my Hayley Williams

articles and by the
bands I specialise
my magazine in.
Comparison - Text

                  ‘Broadcast’ ‘Kerrang!’

                                       Similar layout and
                                             writing

                                                          Totally different to…
As well as the overall look of my magazine,
the interview text I have created is similar to
‘Kerrang!’ but totally different to ‘Top of the pops’.

As you can see, ‘Kerrang!’ and ‘Broadcast’ are very alike.
This is because we have near enough the same target
audience(of the ages 14-25) and interests.

‘Top of the pops’ is different to ‘Broadcast’ because the target
audience, layout, colour, images and music are different.

                      -Blacks
To conclude

In conclusion, my magazine has a similar theme to ‘Kerrang!’ and this is shown by
how the colours, text, fonts, layout and images are reoccurring throughout
                              ‘Broadcast’ and ‘Kerrang!’.
I wanted my magazine to portray Kerrang’s style and represent particular social
groups because that is the style of music I enjoy.

I compared my magazine to ‘Top of the pops’ because I wanted to show exactly
how my magazine was specific to a genre of music. For this, I showed how the
colours, fonts, text and images are different in ‘Top of the pops’ to my magazine.

Every magazine has its own target audience and it all depends on specific taste
and interest of the potential buyers.
