Statement of intent

  1. 1. WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR MUSICMAGAZINE?SUBWFR
  2. 2. WHAT WILL YOUR MAGAZINE BE ABOUT?My magazine will mainly be about Dubstep (with some elements of Drumand Bass) and everything thats new in the world of Dubstep.
  3. 3. DESCRIBE THE DESIGN OF THE TITLE?The spelling of SUBWOOFER has been altered (the ‘oo’ and the ‘e’ has beentaken out); this reveals the youthful element of the magazine as youngpeople usually use abbreviations when using social networks, communicating etc. This title also appeals to my target audience asmajority of the readers would probably understand the relation ofsubwoofers to Dubstep, as it is a common attraction when promotingDubstep events (mainly festivals). My title connotes to my music genre as when spoken, it says ‘subwoofer’which is a loudspeaker used to reproduce very low-frequency sounds withgreat power, which is very relevant to Dubstep as the main element of thegenre is the very powerful low-frequency basslines.
  4. 4. WHAT WILL THE DOMINATE IMAGE ON YOUR MAGAZINE COVER BE; WHY WILL YOU BE CHOOSING THAT IMAGE?The main image will show a hooded/masked man about to destroy a subwooferand some speakers with a baseball bat. This will mainly be in a dark andabandoned looking setting, and I hope to get some yellow lighting for the photo-shoot.I have chosen to use this image as I believe that it will clearly represent thegrittiness and the filthiness of the new trend in the Dubstep/Brostep basslines andsynths; I want this image to be a visual representation of such basslines.I have also decided to mainly use these two colours as I believe that each of thecolours relate to the two main types of Dubstep fans: the lovers of the dark, eviland mysterious type of Dubstep (black), and the lovers of the energetic, club/rave-based, more happy type of Dubstep (yellow) – commonly described as Brostep.
  5. 5. WHAT DOES THE IMAGE TELL YOUR POTENTIALTARGET AUDIENCE ABOUT THE CONTENT OFTHE MAGAZINE?By the main image showing an artist damaging speakers and a subwooferin an abandoned setting, I hope to send the message to my potential targetaudience that the content is very raw and cutting-edge, just as thebasslines in Dubstep.
  6. 6. WILL YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE FIND YOURFRONT IMAGE APPEALING? WHY OR WHY NOT?I believe that my target audience will find my front image appealing as it willbe a good representation of the Dubstep genre, which the reader should beable to recognise and relate to.Also, the artist in the main image will be making direct address with thetarget audience which will build some sort of intimacy and will entice thereader to buy it
  7. 7. WILL YOU BE INCLUDING OTHER IMAGES ON THE FRONT COVER? IFYES, WHAT WILL THEY BE? IF NO, WHAT IMAGE(S) DO YOU THINKYOU WILL BE INCLUDING ON YOUR MAGAZINE COVER?Yes, I will be including a pictures of 2 two other main artists that will be featured in the magazine as well as a logo of the organisation that will be featured in the issue as part of the Spotlight section.
  8. 8. WHO IS THE POTENTIAL TARGET AUDIENCE FORYOUR MAGAZINE? HOW DO YOU KNOW?Age:16-25 – the content in Dubstep is usually aimed at this age group so they will be the ones that are most likely to be interested in it.Gender:Mainly aimed at males but is also has some relevance to female Dubstep fans as wellEthnicity:Aimed at all ethnicities but will most probably be more relevant to Caucasians as, through personal research, I have found that they listen to Dubstep more than other ethnicities.Status:Mainly aimed at the middle class, as the price range is most comfortable for them and they are usually the people that buy tickets for Dubstep events, buy the merchandise, music etc.
  9. 9. WHAT ARTICLES WILL BE FOUND IN THE MAGAZINES ASWILL BE DEPICTED BY YOUR CHOSEN COVER LINES?HOW DO THOSE ARTICLES RELATE TO THE TITLE OFYOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE?There will be 5 main articles found in this issue of the magazine as there will be 5 cover lines on the front cover. These articles will relate to the title as they will be about the two Dubstep musicians that are the most popular within the Dubstep genre, a Dubstep/Drum and Bass event that will relate to that target audience the most, a Spotlight section that will feature an organisation that is supporting the Dubstep genre heavily or something that is very popular in the Dubstep genre and
  10. 10. BEBASNEUE
  11. 11. Gulim
  12. 12. WILL YOUR CHOSEN FONT DEPICT THE GENREOF YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE?My fonts will not depict the Dubstep genre. I say this because to do this, it would be best to use eroded/distorted fonts and based on my research, I have found that fonts in most a music magazines are usually Sans- Serif fonts and are quite simplistic, regardless of the genre.I have decided to take on this attribute of magazines and use it in mine, as I believe that doing otherwise would make the magazine look too cluttered and complicated, making it unattractive.
