on Earth
• its capital city is Vientiane
• Buddhist beliefs help them to
find happiness through a
simple life
Checkpoint 1: Wow Laos!
How much do you know about
Laos? Encircle the answers in the
given grid. You may find them

suffering. May the great devata
bestow a great blessing on us. May
we be granted a child of our own."
The Four
Marvelous
Brothers
The Four Marvelous Brothers
• Once upon a time, there was a
childless old couple who lived near
the river bank at the foot of a high
mountain.
• They asked for blessings from the
devata.
• They were given a golden
pumpkin, a silver squash, and
black and white grains.
• They took a very good care of
them as if they were their own
children.
The Four Marvelous Brothers
• Ever since they have been in
possession of the four things, the
old man became stronger and
more diligent.
• One night, the couple went to bed
earlier than usual so that they
could wake up at night to watch
their "children."
• They saw four handsome young
lads hatching out of the four
things.
The Four Marvelous Brothers
• The couple hurried to hide the
shells of the four things, so the
four sons cannot find the shells
when they got home in one
morning.
• The four sons instructed the
couple to wait for them to become
finally humans.
• At the age of eighteen, the four
sons wanted to get married.
The Four Marvelous Brothers
• The sons then became royal son-
in-laws.
• The four brothers went to rule the
four cities in Laos.
