Fluoride is an essential and beneficial element in
minute concentration for bone and teeth development
but excessive ingestion causes a disease known as

Stiffening of joint, deformation of bones, mottled and
chipped teeth are the characteristic symptoms of
fluorosis in human beings.
W.H.O. (1996) standards permits 1.5mg/L as a safe
limit of fluoride in drinking water for human
consumption.
The present paper describes the extent of severity of
dental fluorosis in the study area.
