Facts About ASDs
Facts
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs)
are a group of developmental
disabilities that can cause
significant social, communication
and behavioral challenges. People
with ASDs handle information in
their brain differently than other
people.
ASDs are "spectrum disorders." That means ASDs affect each person in different ways, and
can range from very mild to severe. People with ASDs share some similar symptoms, such as
problems with social interaction. But there are differences in when the symptoms start, how
severe they are, and the exact nature of the symptoms.
There are three different types of ASDs:
· Autistic Disorder (also called "classic" autism)
This is what most people think of when hearing the word "autism." People with autistic
disorder usually have significant language delays, social and communication challenges,
and unusual behaviors and interests. Many people with autistic disorder also have
intellectual disability.
· Asperger Syndrome
People with Asperger syndrome usually have some milder symptoms of autistic
disorder. They might have social challenges and unusual behaviors and interests.
However, they typically do not have problems with language or intellectual disability.
· Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified(PDD-NOS; also
called "atypical autism")
People who meet some of the criteria for autistic disorder or Asperger syndrome, but
not all, may be diagnosed with PDD-NOS. People with PDD-NOS usually have fewer and
milder symptoms than those with autistic disorder. The symptoms might cause only
social and communication challenges.
Signs and Symptoms
ASDs begin before the age of 3 and last throughout a person's life, although symptoms may
improve over time. Some children with an ASD show hints of future problems within the first
few months of life. In others, symptoms might not show up until 24 months or later. Some
children with an ASD seem to develop normally until around 18 to 24 months of age and then
they stop gaining new skills, or they lose the skills they once had.
A person with an ASD might:
·
Not respond to their name by 12 months
·
Not point at objects to show interest (point at an airplane flying over) by 14 months
·
Not play "pretend" games (pretend to "feed" a doll) by 18 months

Good After noon my name is LamarquePolvado and I am the CEO and founder of Carestarter and we are taking care of business. Which might lead you to ask what business. CareStarter helps you make the most important decision you will make in your life.….it is not a business decision, not who you marry, or what you next investment will be….The most important decision you will make in your life will be a decision about your health or the health of someone whom you love when you receive a diagnosis. I hope this has not happened to you but…..
For me this happened 8.5 years ago when my oldest daughter Ashlyn was diagnosed with Autism. A diagnosis
We were given a sheet of paper with Autism at the top and grim statistics at the bottom and the doc walked out of the room with giving us one referral.
So how many resources did Ashlyn need to receive that day? You might be surprised to learn that she needed 10 referrals in three different categories. It took us 12 to 14 months and many late night hours to slowly piece this information together.
I would like to introduce you to the CareStarter patient empowerment platform. Our platform is patient centric and uses diagnosis to facilitate four different modes of information and interaction. The core of our platform is the Patient Resource Engine helping patients to find resources quickly and efficiently, News and information is procured around diagnosis in the patient profile and focuses on inspiration and hope. The Articles module takes this information to a deeper level allowing patient to learn more about what they can do to engage in returning to health and finally our Social mode allows patients and their caregivers to communicate securely about provider options, paths of care, and even attend a virtual support group. All four of these functions are powerful and they provide many opportunities for revenue.
These four modules represent four different buckets of revenue.
Our featured provider model is how we are making money today with our Beta app Connections. Today we have over 50 customers and will hit 100 featured customers by Dec. 15th as we move forward with our development we tap into a powerful sponsored Content Opportunity with a major big data opportunity.
Our traction is not limited to just health systems. Here are just a few of over 50 Customers who are engaging patients on our platform.
I know most of you think of acute medical resources at the point of diagnosis and you are not alone….our competition does to. Medical referral is a 1.4 Billion dollar addressable market. We believe in 360 degrees of care and our addressable market reflects that .
We are a technology company and our addressable market is in excess of 100 billion dollars. IfZocdoc is in the space between patients and doctors on the appointment side….then CareStarter is in the space between patients and doctors after a diagnosis and we accell at resourcing patients.
100 billion is a big number so how do we approach this massive market? A piece at a time. 45% of Americans deal with chronic disease meaning they have a condition that can not be cured acutely it must be managed which requires a high coordination care. It is in this space that our platform has the most to offer. Our beach head is pediatrics for five compelling reasons. We are alone in the market. The special care space has major pain points with few solutions, there is an extreme lack of innovation, the LTV of a pediatric patient is exponentially higher because disease life cycle is 18 to 30 years, and finally kids and caregivers are our unfair advantage because I have spent the last six years founding the Connections Project.
CareStarter is redefining Continuity of Care delivering hope and help at the patient pain point and creating empowerment for the patient and partnering with health providers to improve patient experience.
We have competitors and they have been busy raising money actively. Note that each of them is taking on a sliver of the market and our platform offers a complete solution.
Many of you already know how passionate we are about patient empowerment and choice. 90 days ago we decided that we would launch a thought leader campaign and I would like to invite you to our first event TEDx Turtle Creek on Dec. 6th. Our message is that when patients come first we all win.
CareStarter has the right team, with the right product, at the right time, in the perfect market and we are accelerating. When you consider the fact that this company was formed in Feb of this year incubated, accelerated, and is a year ahead of our projections with a sales process that is less than 60 days old….then you will recognize what we know…this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We would like you to join us as we put patients first.
