Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz was born on November 12, 1648 in Mexico. She was a renowned Mexican writer who read extensively throughout her life, becoming a lady-in-waiting for the Vicereine. In her later years, Sor Juana sold her possessions and library to donate money to poor, sick, and hungry people in Mexico, where she died in 1695.
