Final Portfolio Reflection: Digital Age Leadership 
  
NETS­A standards that correspond to my strengths and weaknesses. 
 
Visionary leadership­ Medium Strength 
As a site administrator, I always believed that collaboration was important when dealing with 
all stakeholders.  It can be difficult to get everyone to agree and have a common focus.  With 
input from parents, students, and all staff that have a willingness to listen in an effort to embed 
their thoughts into a vision, most will embrace a vision for the school, program or district.  We 
continue to evolve in the new online school in Moreno Valley, through collaboration and 
learning more about technology and new ways to implement in our program to enhance 
learning for our students.  My weakness in this area is advocating on the state and national 
level to change policies and receive funding that will support technology in the classroom at a 
different level. Schools need more than just computers to engage students in relevant and 
rigorous learning.  I am going to actively participate on the technology committee at the district 
level and have more of a voice for the use of technology and the tools that can be used. 
  
Digital age learning culture­Strength 
We continually research the variety of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and what 
curriculum our students need.  We realized that we needed more than one LMS to meet the 
needs of all students. The teachers have learned how to build their own curriculum or add 
district mandates into the LMS and this allows us to take the assessments from the district 
and compare data.  We are looking for new technology that will enhance what we already 
use, for example, ZSpace a 3­D science lab that will help the school in STEM education. 
 
 ​Excellence in professional practice­ Strength 
I believe in professional development and implementation of new technology and teaching 
strategies for blended learning.  We have “flex days” twice a month where we look at data. 
The last two meeting I showed them some of the Web 2.0 tools that I have used in the 
program. They have time at the end of the day to collaborate with each other and share ideas 
or strategies. 
My weakness is keeping up with research and effective use of technology.  This program has 
taught me the value of keeping up with changing in technology and how it can be used to 
increase student learning and teacher’s ability to use new tools to engage students. I will 
attend conferences from CUE and iNacol or another program like LEC. 
  
Systemic improvement­ Weakness 
This is an area of needed improvement; we collect data on student achievement, number of 
classes passed, attendance and time on the computer. We need to develop a climate survey 
for parents and students to ensure that we are providing a quality program and meeting the 
needs of their children.  My goal is to develop partnership within the community and the 
district.  I am a Rotarian and will make a presentation to my club and the noon club regarding 
online education and how it is changing education.  Currently all of our computers are 
connected, we are investigating tablets or notebooks so students can work together in 
learning areas or at tables, this will be included in our LCAP.   
 
Digital citizenship­ Medium Strength 
All of our students have access to digital tools and technology that meets the needs of all our 
students.  We have multiple levels of curriculum for students at the basic level to those who 
need AP classes.  We have established policies regarding cyberbullying and cell phone usage 
that is given to the students.  We talk about not bullying students through blackboard, text 
messaging or social networking.  The Weakness is that we don’t let parents know about 
cyberbullying and how they can help us ensure that their children are safe.  I am going to us 
the PowerPoint that I developed in this program and present to my staff, parents and 
students.  I also liked the curriculum that was on NetzSmart that could be used.  I have asked 
my teachers to use it as a blended learning lesson in August. 
 
Essential Conditions­ Medium Strength 
I believe that most of these can be completed over the next year as the foundation has been 
built in the last year and a half.  The remainder of the year we will focus on the shared vision, 
empowering my staff to become leaders, hiring skilled personnel from K­12, curriculum 
framework , student­centered learning part of the  and assessment and evaluation of our 
program. 
 
Action Plan for implementing change and continue learning about digital age learning. 
 To build a quality online program an educational leader needs to work with the stakeholders 
and make all Essential Conditions part of the culture of our program.  The first step is to make 
the stakeholders aware of the Essential Conditions and start working on goals and timelines 
for implementation.  I also am going to give the ISTE Standards for Teachers to my staff; they 
will watch webinars together during our flex days and start collaborating with each other on 
their strengths and weakness and developing an action plan.  We use SMART GOALs in our 
Professional Learning Communities; these can be added to our WASC report and given to the 
district as our yearly goals. I will attend conferences on technology, technology tools and 
information that will help our program grow and help the district with their goals of all students 
succeeding and graduating prepared for college or a career.
