Difference between MSc Horticulture and MSc Agriculture
MSc Agriculture
 MSc Agriculture is a two year postgraduate coursedivided into four
semesters that is pursued after the completion of Graduation.
 This coursedeals with principles and practices of crop production and field
management.
 Subjects studied under this course are modern concepts in crop production,
herbicides and crop production, physiological aspect of crop yield,
physiology of drought, principles of crop nutrition, physiology of crop
plants, agricultural research organizations, advanced crop ecology, applied
conservation agronomy, advanced irrigation agronomy, arid zone
agronomy, cropping and farming systems and agro-meteorology.
 A student must have passed Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/ Forestry/
Horticulture to take admission in MSc Agriculture.
 There is no age limit to pursue this course.
 Graduates can work as Research Scientist, Crop Consultant, Soil Scientist,
Breeders, Farm Manager, Agriculture Loan Officer, Agronomist,
Environmental Consultant, etc.
 Some of the recruiting organizations are GodrejAgrovet, Rallis India Ltd.,
Britannia, Mothive, Cropx, Agridata, etc.
MSc Horticulture
 MSc Horticulture is a two year postgraduate course divided into four
semesters which is pursued after Graduation.
 This coursedeals with study of plant harvesting including Breeding,
Shortage and storage of vegetables and fruits. Horticulture is the branch of
science, art, technology and business that is involved in intensive plant
cultivation for human purpose.
 A student must have passed Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/
Biotechnology or any other discipline.
 The maximum age limit to pursue this courseis 25 years.
 Graduates can work as Foreman, Consultant, Professor, Scientist, Production
Manager, Marketing Head, Horticultural Education Supervisor, etc.
 Some of the recruiting organizations Interior Plantscapes, SHORB
Publications, Sun Valley Landscaping, Casa Verde Growers, etc.
MSc Agriculture and MSc Horticulture are both branches of science but
differ from each other in several ways. But it is true that both the courses are
career oriented and give deep knowledge to the students.
