Pinocchio morale story of the folly of being gullible. How Pinocchio recovers from pride, selfishness, and sensuality. True life is about self sacrifice, love, and giving
2. On Pleasure Island, the Coachman cried: “Go on and enjoy
yourselves, boys! You can do as you like on Pleasure
Island.
Honest John the Fox invites Pinocchio to Pleasure Island. He
was told tales of fun. Jiminy scolded: “This is wrong”
It was loaded with excited boys, eager for fun and
amusement. He is escorted by a deceitful boy Lampwick.
Nothing is forbidden!
Smoke cigars, gamble,
vandalize, play pool, and
drink alcohol.
The Island has a curse. It
turns such boys into
donkeys.
The Coachman
intends to sell the
boys as slaves!
3. Pinocchio yields to being impulsive. It corrupts his
behavior. He knows better. He ignores his reliable
advisor the cricket.
Yielding to this deception, Lampwick, transforms him
into a braying donkey.
Jiminy Cricket finds Pinocchio just in time as he began
growing donkey ears and tails. “Let’s go” cried Jiminy.
They return home to Geppetto.
4. Pinocchio's Pleasure Island portrays our agreement to enjoy
the adventure and misuse of the pleasures available in the
world. We hear our conscious. We sense its magnetic tug. It
whispers the right decisions to make. Nudged to act right we
don’t. Externally we make a fool of ourself thus the
enslavement eventually as a donkey. Our conscious gets us
out and brings us back home where it is safe.
The Allegorical Message up to Now
5. Geppetto while enroute has been devoured by a great
whale. Pinocchio determines to save his father. He and
Jiminy find the whale. The whale swallows them all. “Father
it’s me”. Geppetto was very happy to see Pinocchio and
hugged him in delight.
They built a fire. The whale sneezes and they are freed!
They are chased.
At home a letter from the Blue Fairy states Geppetto has
gone to look for Pinocchio at Pleasure Island.
6. Geppetto cries and cries.
But the Blue Fairy comes and uses her magic wand.
Pinocchio comes back to life.
Pinocchio drowns during a desperate attempt to save his drowning father. Pinocchio
is found him lying face down, limp and lifeless. Broken-hearted Geppetto takes him
home.
7. The Conclusion
Pinocchio matures. Life is not about self, self gratification, or
achieving personal happiness. It’s about honesty, giving not
taking, integrity, duty, honor, truth, love, forgiveness, and self-
sacrifice.
The Whale represents adversity. Forgetting his own safety
Pinocchio saves Geppetto’s life. He dies doing so. Geppetto
mourns grief-stricken. Yet God in His undeserved mercy
brings Pinocchio back to life. Spontaneous joy results.
His former proud, prestige seeking, lying self given over to
pleasure has died. Pinocchio now wiser returns to the strait
and narrow path. If he makes a bad choice, he will be brave
and own up to it
8. He hugged him, tightly and danced around the
workshop. As for Jiminy, his mission as Pinocchio’s
conscience was over, and quietly slipped away.
EPILOGUE
A Celebration!
10. When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
