- 1. NCR Forms: How are they made, and how do they work? Remember the days of carbon copies? You always had to take care to write with enough pressure to transfer the carbon on to the copies, but not rip through the top copy you're signing. And inevitably, one or more of the copies you pass out would include a smudged word or two and maybe a thumbprint. Luckily, the innovation of NCR forms printing, or carbonless copy forms, emerged. It is now possible to create copies without the mess, hassle, and waste of carbon paper. Like its predecessor, these forms are perfect for job estimates, sales receipts, customer invoices, applications, and more. To make these, sheets of paper are coated with reactive clay and/or tiny capsules of dye or ink. Most pages have clay on the front and dye on the back. The top sheet is only back-coated with dye and the last sheet is only front coated with clay. These specialized coatings are created to react to the pressure of writing or printing. As the pen moves along the top sheet, the capsules on the back of the page break, allowing the ink to fall onto the reactive clay. When placing an order for NCR Forms, you can choose the number of copies you require. Perhaps you need three--one for your records, one for your customer, and one for accounting. Traditionally, the top copy is white and other copies will be one of a handful of different colours. Once printed, these forms can be kept loose for use as printer paper. They can also be assembled using glue, staples, or spiral binding to create a book for end use. Hospitals, businesses, and educational institutions alike have long needed efficient ways of creating duplicates, triplicate, even quadruplicates of contracts, permission forms, and other important documents. With the advent of NCR forms printing, they now have a clean, convenient method of creating them.
